Way Too Cool 50K & 10 Miler, Presented by Altra, Returning for 2027
August 21, 2026
August 21, 2026 /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – Spring marks a time of renewal, both in our natural environment and on our race calendars. Mark your calendars for March 6, 2027, when the 37th Annual Way Too Cool 50K and 3rd Annual Way Too Cool 10 Miler, presented by Altra, return to the trails.
“Way Too Cool has always been about more than the miles. It’s about challenging yourself, sharing beautiful trails with great people, and coming back to Cool to celebrate together. Whether you’re racing the 50K or dipping your toes in with the 10 Miler, we want you to leave wanting to come back,” said Julie Fingar, Race Director and owner of NorCalUltras.
Third Year for the 10 Miler
The addition of the 10 Miler to Way Too Cool race weekend has given runners who may be new to the trails or not quite ready to tackle a 50K the chance to dip their toes in and see what all the fun is about. Heading into its third year, the 10 Miler has quickly found its place at Way Too Cool, earning rave reviews since its 2025 debut and selling out quickly.
Runners are expected to come across the finish line between 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., making for a fun morning of racing and leaving plenty of time to grab some food, find a spot along the course, and cheer on the 50K runners.
And for those looking to run fast, there are records to chase! Perla Rodriguez (1:16:53) and Gabriel Rodriguez (1:37:08) currently hold the 10 Miler course records and set the marks to beat in 2027.
Continued Success for the 50K
Meanwhile, the 50K remains a favorite way to kick off a new year of racing. With a course that is 98% singletrack, runners can expect creek crossings, steep climbs, beautiful trails, and five aid stations to keep them fueled along the way. Whether you’re chasing a PR or simply looking for a fun day on the trails, the varied course offers plenty of opportunities for both.
One of the things that makes Way Too Cool so special is the mix of runners who toe the line together. Elite athletes, seasoned ultrarunners, and those tackling the distance for the first time all get to experience the same beautiful and challenging course.
For those looking to make a run at the record books, the marks to beat have stood since 2015. Megan Roche holds the women’s course record at 3:41:56, while Patrick Smythe holds the men’s record at 3:04:48. Runners have until 4:30 p.m. to make their way back to the finish line.
Finish Line Festivities
The fun doesn’t stop when you cross the finish line. Runners are welcomed back to Cool with the race’s signature frog cupcake and Chef Tim’s Homemade Soup for the Soul, before settling into the Ultra Village to celebrate the day.
With an on-site beer garden, great food, post-race massage, vendors, and plenty of space to hang out and cheer on fellow runners, the Ultra Village is the perfect place to swap trail stories, reconnect with friends, and soak up the Way Too Cool finish-line atmosphere.
NorCalUltras is proud to once again welcome runners to Cool, California, while giving back to the trails and community that make this event possible, with race donations benefiting Protect American River Canyons (PARC).
