Race will host the 2017-19 Championships
USATF Indiana has announced a multi-year partnership with the Indy Half Marathon at Fort Ben to host the Indiana Half Marathon Championships. The partnership will begin in 2017 and run through 2019. The 2017 championships will be held on Saturday, October 7 in Fort Harrison State Park in Indianapolis.
The Indy Half Marathon at Fort Ben is one of three events owned and operated by Beyond Monumental. The others are the CNO Financial Indianapolis Monumental Marathon held in November and the Monumental Mile held in June.
The new partnership will add a fall highlight to the USATF Indiana distance running calendar while providing a minimum of $2000 in prize money dedicated to athletes competing in the Indiana championships.
“We’re excited to extend the tradition of hosting some of Indiana’s best half marathon runners at the Indy Half at Fort Ben,” stated Jed Cornforth Executive Director of Beyond Monumental. “By continuing our partnership with USATF Indiana through 2019, we are able to bring in athletes who raise the competitive level of our event and help inspire those around them as they participate in this championship level event.”
Prize money will be awarded to the top three open athletes and the top three masters athletes (based on age-graded performances). The open men’s and women’s champion will be awarded $500. USATF Indiana members will also receive a $5 entry fee discount.
“We are very excited to have found such a strong partner in the Indy Half at Fort Ben,” offered John Maley USATF Indiana Long Distance Running chair. “Providing best-in-class events that allow our athletes to compete for prize money and Indiana bragging-rights is what we are all about and this partnership will further our commitment to these goals.”
“One of the goals of USATF Indiana is to become more involved with the community while creating and building strong relationships with various organizations,” stated Latashia Key USATF Indiana president. “As a competitive runner, this is a great opportunity for all athletes and I look forward to future events with Beyond Monumental as a partner.”
