USA Triathlon Board of Directors Announces Key Leadership Updates

Gallegos named to the Board, Rosinbum retains elite athlete representative seat, McCook elected Vice President

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — The USA Triathlon Board of Directors today announced several key updates following recent board member and officer elections. Gabriela Gallegos joins the Board as the South Central Region Representative, incumbent Joel Rosinbum was re-elected as an Elite Athlete Representative, and Jacqueline McCook was named Vice President of the Board.

“I am proud to welcome Gabriela, a longtime USA Triathlon Certified Race Director, to the USA Triathlon Board of Directors, and am pleased to continue working with Joel as an Elite Athlete Representative. The Board will undoubtedly benefit from Jacqueline’s business and professional experience, as well as her significant commitment and dedication to the federation as our new Vice President,” said Barry Siff, President of the USA Triathlon Board of Directors. “These are exciting and positive developments that will continue to strengthen the Board’s collective expertise as we carry out USA Triathlon’s Strategic Plan.”

Gallegos (El Paso, Texas) has been appointed to the USA Triathlon Board of Directors as the South Central Region representative, filling the vacant regional position left by Staci Brode, who informed USA Triathlon in early November that she was stepping down from the Board and her officer role to dedicate more time to her growing business. Gallegos will serve a one-year term before the seat is up for re-election.

Gallegos is a USA Triathlon Certified Race Director and Certified Youth Race Director, attorney and entrepreneur. She participated in her first triathlon in 2006, and has been passionately involved in multisport ever since. She is the president, founder and race director at Race El Paso, which produced the area’s first USA Triathlon-sanctioned event in 2010. Race El Paso now produces five El Paso-area multisport events annually, including the popular all-women’s Mighty Mujer Triathlon. The beginner-friendly event has significantly increased triathlon’s visibility in El Paso and expanded to Miami and Tucson, Arizona, with additional cities in the works.

In addition to producing high-quality local races, Gallegos is focused on expanding opportunities in triathlon for women and increasing racial and ethnic diversity in the sport. She has served on USA Triathlon’s Strategic Planning Committee since 2017, offering valuable insights on the organization’s direction while gaining familiarity with its goals, challenges and complexities.

“I look forward to working with the USA Triathlon Board and staff to serve members and achieve the organization’s ambitious and strategic goals,” Gallegos said. “I’m excited about the direction of the organization and believe that USA Triathlon can make great strides to welcome new people into our sport.”

Outside of her work in triathlon, Gallegos is an attorney and mediator. She is also a consultant for the Paso del Norte Institute for Healthy Living, where she serves as a public policy and program development liaison for local and regional initiatives connected to healthy eating and active living. She is a member of the Board of Directors for the El Paso Zoological Society and the YWCA El Paso del Norte Region.

Gallegos is a 1998 graduate of Cornell University, where she was a double major in government and philosophy with a concentration in law and society. She earned her master’s degree in public policy in 2002, and her Juris Doctor in 2003, both from the University of California at Berkeley.

Rosinbum (Austin, Texas) was re-elected by his USA Triathlon elite athlete peers as Elite Athlete Representative on the Board following a run-off election against Renée Tomlin (Ocean City, N.J.). He fills the third elite athlete seat, joining Ben Collins (Seattle, Wash.) and Erin Storie (Colorado Springs, Colo.). Rosinbum was first elected to the Board in 2015, the first elite paratriathlete to serve in the role. He will serve another two-year term.

Rosinbum is a four-time USA Paratriathlon national champion, two-time ITU Paratriathlon World Cup winner, ITU World Paratriathlon Series medalist and the 2015 ITU Aquathlon world champion in the men’s PTS4 division. He competed in triathlon as an age-group athlete prior to a 2007 ski accident that paralyzed his right arm, and has remained committed to the sport ever since. He hopes to continue representing the U.S. in elite ITU paratriathlon competition in the lead-up to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.

He is a graduate of the University of Portland, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in computer science and was a member of the men’s rowing program.

“I am very excited to continue to serve on the USA Triathlon Board of Directors. We have accomplished so much the past few years in setting the strategic direction of the federation,” Rosinbum said. “The next few years are going to be crucial to the continued success of the sport. I’m humbled and honored to be entrusted with the responsibility of continuing to guide triathlon in the United States.”

McCook (Bend, Ore.) replaces Brode as Vice President. McCook has served on the Board since 2013 as an Independent Director, and will hold the Vice President position through January 2020.

“I am eager to step into the role of Vice President, and I look forward to working with our talented team of new and existing Board members to drive USA Triathlon’s key objectives as outlined in our Strategic Plan,” McCook said. “I am proud to be part of the leadership team for such a committed group of individuals as we work to grow the sport and better serve the broad USA Triathlon community.”

McCook has been involved in multisport since the early 1990s, when she completed her first triathlon. In 2014, she was elected President of the newly formed USA Triathlon Foundation. She is also a member of the USA Triathlon Marketing Committee, which provides insight to the organization’s marketing and communications team on key initiatives and partnerships.

McCook is a veteran strategy and marketing executive with more than 30 years of experience in consumer-oriented retail, manufacturing and advisory organizations. McCook has held high-level strategy and marketing positions with Taco Bell and PepsiCo Restaurants/YUM International, and served as Chief Growth Officer at ConAgra Foods and Head of Worldwide Strategy and Branding at Burger King. She started her career in M&A at Morgan Stanley, and was a consultant with McKinsey & Company.

McCook earned her MBA from Harvard Business School and her bachelor’s degree in international relations from Stanford University, where she was a co-founder of the women’s water polo team. A lifetime athlete, McCook is an avid runner, cyclist and swimmer, and has also completed four marathons.
