IRONMAN University’s Coaching Certification Program approved for up to 10 Continuing Education Provider Units
TAMPA, Fla. (May 21, 2015) — IRONMAN University™, an innovative and intuitive on-line education and certification platform that offers instruction for coaches and endurance athletes of varying skills and abilities, has been approved by USA Cycling as a certified Continuing Education Unit (CEU) Provider.
“Continuing Education is vital for coaches to enhance their ability towards helping athletes achieve their goals. USA Cycling’s Coaching Education’s mission is, Enhancing coaches abilities through excellence in education, opportunities, tools, and technology, and the IRONMAN University Coaching Certification fits this mission extremely well,” said Kevin Dessart, Director of Coaching Education and Athlete Development for USA Cycling. “IRONMAN University Master Coaches will be able to offer a world of knowledge and experience to our licensed coaches which they will be able to utilize when coaching their athletes.”
Currently, coaches who are USA Cycling Certified are required to recertify every two years by completing 40 CEUs. For coaches looking to fulfill this requirement, the IRONMAN University Coaching Certification Program is approved for up to 10 CEUs towards USA Cycling recertification.

As part of the coaching certification process, the core curriculum of the program will be delivered through 11 different modules including topics ranging from IRONMAN® history and coaching philosophy, the art of coaching, the development of training plans, the business of coaching and event preparation, to swimming, biking, running, strength and conditioning, understanding exercise science, and sports nutrition. Additional specialized modules will be available at a later date.
The basis for the curriculum is the collaboration of subject matter experts as well as seven IRONMAN University Master Coaches with extensive endurance sports background and knowledge, who are regarded as leaders in the triathlon coaching world. They include Mark Allen, Matt Dixon, Troy Jacobson, Paula Newby-Fraser, Dave Scott and Lance Watson.
