USATF 100 Mile Road National Championship Returns to Southern Nevada
(LAS VEGAS – February 13, 2019) – Sin City’s premier ultra endurance running event, the 6th Annual Jackpot Ultra Running Festival, will take place Feb 15-17 at Cornerstone Park. The Festival will again feature the USATF 100-Mile Road National Championship race, along with 6/12/24/48 hour races, a 50-mile race and marathon.
The sold-out field of 330 runners, which represents a 35% increase from 2018, will be running on a short loop course around a majestic 31 acre bird sanctuary lake on a USATF certified and sanctioned course. All races start at 8:00 AM MST on Saturday, Feb 16, except for the 48-hour race, which begins Friday, Feb 15 at 8:00 AM MST.
Several notable ultra runners will be competing in the USATF 100-Mile race; including 11 time USATF Champion Connie Gardner (Akron, OH) and Jackpot’s 2016 2nd place 100-mile finisher Stacey Costa (Castro Valley, CA). Jacob Jackson (Loma Linda, CA), who grabbed first place at the 2018 Desert Solstice 24-hour race with his 157-mile performance, leads the men’s field. Mark Hammond (Mill Creek, UT), who has finished 3rd at Western States, second at Run Rabbit Run three times, and won the Across the Years 24 hour race back in December, will be gunning for Jackson. Other notable men with strong podium potential include; Josh Sanders (Kalamazoo, MI), Sam Skeels (Adrian, MI) and Olaf Wasternack (Franklin, TN). Jon Olsen (Modesto, CA), last year’s Jackpot USATF 100-Mile National Champion, returns this year with his eye’s set on winning the 6-hour race. Jon was the first North American to ever run 100 miles in under 12 hours and is a 3-time U.S. National 24-Hour Team Member.
Elvis and the Fabulous Las Vegas Showgirls will be on-hand both Friday and Saturday to kick-off all races, while local musician Jonny Hazard will perform lakeside on both Friday & Saturday afternoons. For the second year in a row, the race offers a prize pool up to $10,000. The public is welcome to watch the full competition and attendance is free.
