Denver, Colo. – With every mile under their feet, a pair of runners will be making a difference in the lives and health of others at this year’s Transamerica Rock ‘n’ Roll Denver Half Marathon.
The “Go-Givers” as they’re called, will raise a dollar for the American Heart Association for every runner they pass along the 13.1 mile course. The program is sponsored by Transamerica, a financial services firm that also serves as the title sponsor for the race. In 2016, Transamerica raised $76,000 for the AHA across eight Rock ‘n’ Roll races in the U.S. through its unique program.
According to Transamerica chief operations officer and former Go-Giver Blake Bostwick, “Transamerica’s core purpose is to help people build a lifetime of financial security. At the same time, we embrace a commitment to active and healthy lifestyles because a person’s health and wealth are inextricably connected. Without any doubt, good health helps support long-term financial security.”
The two Go-Givers in 2017 are both Denver-based Transamerica employees who are motivated by personal experiences with heart disease.
Dichele Jackson describes herself as an “every day runner” with a goal of beating 10 minute miles.
“Running has always been a challenging sport for me, but when I had my daughter I wanted to spend my time with her and there is no better way to exercise with an infant than to run,” Jackson said. “Running has slowly become a passion for me. The opportunity to run and support the American Heart Association is extremely meaningful to me because in the last year I have lost two uncles to massive heart attacks. I’m running to protect my heart and my family’s hearts.”
Alex Behm will join Dichele on the course. An accomplished runner, Behm participated in the Transamerica Rock ‘n’ Roll event in 2016 and was already motivated to beat his time from last year. Now he’s got an even bigger goal to keep him moving.
“I realized that having a set goal was huge in motivating me to run,” Behm said. “I want to beat my previous time and I’m honored to represent Transamerica as a Go-Giver. My health is a huge factor in my overall happiness and I look forward to making a difference in the health of others through this effort for the AHA.”
The Transamerica Rock ‘n’ Roll Denver Half Marathon features local, live bands playing every mile along the 13.1-mile course, as well as cheer teams and spectators keeping the energy high as runners complete their distance.
The weekend will once again feature two days of running, with a 5K on Saturday, October 14, and the 10K and half marathon taking place on Sunday, October 15. Runners are invited to take on the Remix Challenge by tackling miles on both days. For the first time, participants can relax post-race with free Yoga in the Park, offered by instructors from Kindness Yoga after Saturday’s 5K.
Race weekend kicks off with a free Health & Fitness Expo at the Colorado Convention Center on Friday, October 13 and Saturday, October 14. More than 100 retailers will be on hand, offering the latest in nutrition and fitness apparel.
