Rock ‘n’ Roll USA on pace to sell-out; Runners urged to register now at RunRocknRoll.com; Race to unveil scenic, more convenient NEW start line at Constitution Ave.; Only marathon run entirely through D.C.
Washington, D.C. – January 23, 2013 – Time is running out for runners hoping to tour the nation’s capital at the 2nd annual Rock ‘n’ Roll USA Marathon & CareFirst Rock ‘n’ Roll USA 1/2 Marathon, which is set to return Saturday, March 16, 2013.
The race is on pace to sell-out for a second year as it debuts a brand new course to thousands of runners from across the country. Runners will gather at a new start line on Constitution Avenue at 14th Street, surrounded by views of some of the country’s most breathtaking and historically significant landmarks. The improved start line also creates added convenience, with close proximity to center city hotels and metro stops.
“The enthusiastic response from our runners is a testament to the truly unique experience this race offers, running amidst the country’s premier tourist attractions while enjoying on-course entertainment and live music,” said Adam Zocks, Vice President of CGI, director of the event. “We expect to reach capacity in the coming weeks and welcome runners to join us while they still can.”
The race is the only marathon run entirely within the District of Columbia. Traveling along Constitution, participants will view the White House on the right and the stunning Washington Monument on the left as they head toward George Washington University. The course then loops back towards the National Mall and Lincoln Memorial, passing West Potomac Park and crossing the Arlington Memorial Bridge. New for 2013, marathoners will run in the shadows of not only the US Supreme Court but also the US Capitol building before enjoying more than 3 scenic miles along the Anacostia River’s waterfront, with views of the Washington D.C. skyline.
In true Rock ‘n’ Roll fashion, each mile will greet participants with rousing live music from local bands, motivating cheerleaders, and thousands of spectators helping to encourage runners through their 13.1 or 26.2 mile journey.
Both races will finish at RFK Stadium, which had previously served as the race’s start since 2006. Outside the stadium, runners can rejoin friends and family to celebrate their accomplishment with a post-race concert and finish line festival.
Marathon weekend kicks off with the Health & Fitness Expo at the DC Armory Thursday and Friday. The Expo, which is free to the general public, features interactive activities, educational sessions and expert speakers along with 80 exhibitors providing free samples, giveaways and health and fitness information. Kids can also get into the action with ING KiDS ROCK D.C., a non-timed, non-competitive one-mile run for children in grades K-7 held on Thursday night.
Registration is currently available online at www.RunRocknRoll.com.
