Life Time Athletic Events to host Texas’ premier triathlon this Memorial Day
AUSTIN, Texas (April 8, 2014) – Life Time – The Healthy Way of Life CompanySM (NYSE:LTM) will once again host the 2014 Life Time Tri CapTex on May 26, continuing the city’s Memorial Day tradition. The triathlon will take place at the Palmer Events Center in Austin, Texas, and is expected to sell-out and bring more than 3,000 athletes and spectators to downtown Austin.
Life Time Tri CapTex will serve athletes of all levels from all over the world, from first-time triathletes to top ranked professionals. The race, recognized in Austin Fit Magazine’s Best of 2013, is the second event in the 2014 Life Time Tri Series, which includes 11 additional events scheduled across the country between May and October. The winner of Life Time Tri Cap Tex will take home part of a $30,000 cash purse and earn points toward their overall standings as they work toward the series finale, Life Time Tri Oceanside in October.
Life Time Tri CapTex offers an Olympic-distance course, Sprint-distance course and SuperSprint-distance course. The race will give athletes a unique opportunity to explore the city like no others can. Athletes will swim in the city’s iconic Lady Bird Lake before taking over the streets of downtown Austin by bike. The bike course passes the Texas Capitol and continues up to the University of Texas. The run course will take athletes over the Ann Richards Bridge, famous for the largest urban bat colony in the United States. The race ends with a finisher’s festival at the Palmer Events Center.
New this year, Life Time has expanded its support for supporting St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which is leading the way the world understands, treats and defeats childhood cancer and other deadly diseases. Participants in the event are invited to “tri for the kids” of St. Jude and raise money to earn great perks such as free race entry, race weekend travel accommodations, St. Jude gear and much more. Supporters can compete as an individual, form a relay team or participate in the Corporate Challenge.
