The Sufferfest Releases Two New 30-Minute Workouts for Time-Crunched Cyclists

August 27, 2019– The Sufferfest, a comprehensive training app for cyclists and triathletes, today announced the release of two new 30-minute workouts videos: Joyride and The Cure. Adding to The Sufferfest library of over 70 structured workouts, these two high-intensity interval sessions feature exclusive footage from the Tour de France, Tour of Flanders and the Col Collective.

Joyride is a 29-minute workout created by world-renowned coaches Neal Henderson and Mac Cassin at The Sufferfest Sports Science Division. Designed to help athletes develop their Maximal Aerobic Power (MAP) and VO2 Max, Joyride is built around 5 MAP intervals ranging in length from 3 minutes to 60 seconds. Using The Sufferfest’s Four-Dimensional Power™ platform, every interval is precisely calibrated to an individual athlete’s power profile.

“Maximal Aerobic Power is determined in part by the maximum amount of oxygen your body can uptake during exercise,” said Cassin. “The five MAP intervals in Joyride are designed to improve VO2 max, which is a critical aspect of performance in endurance sports. By setting cadence targets that are higher than normal, Joyride also focuses on stimulating the cardiovascular system. Despite being just 30 minutes long, this is one of the most challenging, effective workouts in The Sufferfest library.”

The Cure is a 30-minute workout based on specific micro-intervals made famous by Japanese coach and physiologist Izumi Tabata. Unlike traditional Tabata intervals, the intensity of the 20-second efforts in each of the three sets in The Cure has been scaled back to target Maximal Aerobic Power instead of Anaerobic Capacity. Each set of micro-intervals is followed by a sustained effort at 80-100% of Functional Threshold Power, mimicking the repeated attacks followed by steady efforts that characterises bike racing.
