PHILADELPHIA — The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) announces its return as the charity title partner for the AACR Rock ‘n’ Roll Philadelphia Half Marathon. The AACR is pleased to announce the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson as the official partner.

The AACR is the first and largest cancer research organization in the world, bringing together the greatest minds in cancer research in the quest to cure and prevent cancer through research, education, communication, and collaboration. This year will mark the third time the AACR has been the charity title partner for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Philadelphia Half Marathon.

“As two Philadelphia-based leaders in cancer, I can think of no better partner than the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson to raise awareness and funds for lifesaving cancer research at the AACR Rock ‘n’ Roll Philadelphia Half Marathon,” said Mitch Stoller, executive director of the AACR Foundation. “I am looking forward to coming together as a community now more than ever to defeat cancer.”

A leading center for practice-changing discovery and comprehensive cancer treatment, the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center of the Thomas Jefferson University has been known as a Designated Center by the National Cancer Institute since 1996, and is one of only 69 institutions in the nation to hold this prestigious recognition. SKCC is committed to delivering the most advanced, personalized cancer care, made possible through their scientific discoveries and breakthroughs in detecting and treating cancer.

“At a time when government funding is in serious jeopardy, teaming up with our hometown partners at the American Association for Cancer Research creates a driving force in the fight against cancer,” said Karen Knudsen, PhD, director of the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center. “Events like the AACR Rock ‘n’ Roll Philadelphia Half Marathon raises the funds required to conduct game-changing research, promotes progress achieved against cancer, and honors the millions who have been touched by cancer. Our goal is to eliminate cancer, and we stand by our motto ‘until every cancer is cured.’”

“The American Association for Cancer Research has been a great partner the past two years and we are thrilled to have them back on board with the addition of the Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson,” said Dave Hussa, vice president of charity partnerships for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series. “Running for a cause is a great way to give back and raise awareness. And it is our goal to help spread the AACR’s mission of finding a cure.”

The 2017 American Association for Cancer Research Rock ‘n’ Roll Philadelphia Half Marathon in partnership with Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center at Jefferson will occur over the weekend of September 16-17. The Half Marathon will take place on Sunday, Sept. 17, and will start and finish at Eakins Oval. The 10K and 5K will occur on Saturday, Sept. 16, and will also start and finish in Eakins Oval.
