SunSky 10K brings bucket-list bridge run back to the Sunshine Skyway

September 30, 2026

Registration opens Oct. 5 for 8,000-runner race benefiting military and first responder charities

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (September 30, 2026) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ — Runners and walkers will once again cross the Bob Graham Sunshine Skyway Bridge when the inaugural SunSky 10K takes place Sunday, March 21, 2027, organizers announced Wednesday. Registration opens Monday, Oct. 5, and the field is limited to 8,000 participants.

The 6.2-mile race follows the northbound lanes of Interstate 275 across the Skyway Bridge, where participants will climb 200 feet above Tampa Bay. Proceeds benefit multiple military and first responder nonprofit organizations.

Organizers expect general admission for the race to sell out quickly and encourage anyone interested to register as soon as registration opens. General admission is $100 per person and charity bibs are $300. Registration is first-come, first-served at sunsky10k.com. Previous runs across the Skyway Bridge sold out within hours.

“One of the things that makes this run unique is that this is the only time the public can run across the bridge. That, mixed with watching the sunrise across Tampa Bay from this iconic bridge, makes it a bucket-list race for runners from throughout the U.S. and around the world,” said Jonathan Dziuba, race director for the SunSky 10K and founding partner of FRESHJUNKIE Racing. “We’re excited to get the team back together and put on this one-of-a-kind event. Runs across this bridge have always been wildly popular and sold out every year, and we expect this one to be no different.”

The SunSky 10K has been in development for more than a year and is planned as an annual race. It is organized by some of the original organizers of the Skyway 10K, the first event to open the bridge to runners and walkers since the bridge opened in 1987.

In partnership with Visit St. Pete-Clearwater, the SunSky 10K will benefit the American Association of State Troopers, the Association of the U.S. Army Suncoast Chapter, the Coast Guard Foundation, the Suncoast Police Benevolent Association, the Tampa Police Benevolent Association and Semper Fi & America’s Fund.

“People loved the Skyway 10K, and a big reason was Jonathan and his team at FRESHJUNKIE, who produced the race year after year and delivered an exceptional event every time,” said James Judge, spokesman for the SunSky 10K and one of the original organizers of the Skyway 10K. “Having that team back means runners can count on the same world-class experience. As a Coast Guard veteran, I know firsthand what service members, law enforcement officers and their families sacrifice, and that’s why being part of an event that gives back to those who serve means so much to me.”

Aside from the new name, the race will feel much like past Skyway runs, with a strong focus on patriotism and on honoring those who serve and have served. Past runs across the bridge drew participants from all 50 states and several countries.

Race-weekend events, including the packet pickup party Saturday, March 20, 2027, and the post-race party, will take place at Tropicana Field in partnership with the Tampa Bay Rays. Because all participants must be bused to and from the course, organizers contract with local school districts for transportation, keeping race-day dollars in the community.

The northbound lanes of the Skyway Bridge are scheduled to close from 3:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on race day.

Staging the race requires coordination with the state of Florida; Hillsborough, Manatee and Pinellas counties; the Florida Department of Transportation; the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles; the Florida Highway Patrol; the city of St. Petersburg; St. Petersburg Fire Rescue; the St. Petersburg Police Department; the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office; Manatee County Fire Rescue; and the U.S. Coast Guard.

The Bob Graham Sunshine Skyway Bridge spans lower Tampa Bay along I-275 and connects Pinellas, Manatee and Hillsborough counties.
