Spring Energy Partners with Kara Goucher and Develops Co-Branded Line
September 5, 2019
Oakland, CA – September 5, 2019 – Since 2014 Spring Energy and their ‘nature is power’ approach to sports nutrition has been a welcomed choice for athletes challenging themselves at some of the most demanding endurance events in the world. As more and more athletes are adopting real food strategies into their training and racing, Spring is honored to welcome Kara Goucher to the team to share this natural approach to fueling, support her trail running pursuits and develop a co-branded line of Spring products alongside Kara’s longstanding experience in the sport of running.
Kara Goucher is one of the most accomplished American female distance runners as a two-time Olympian, World Championships silver medalist and half-marathon record holder. Through her athletic accolades, as well as her positive impact out of competition, Kara has become one of the most trusted, inspirational and influential athletes in the world. She has been a vocal and successful advocate for clean sport, maternity rights and equality in sport leaving a legacy for future generations of athletes. In 2019, Kara announced her excitement to join the trail running community where she debuted on the dirt at the Leadville Marathon and now plans to attempt a 50K event this fall.
“When Kara reached out in the spring to help her with her fueling for Leadville we were ecstatic,” shared Rafal Nazarewicz Ph.D., Spring Energy Co-Founder and Chief Endurance Officer. “We are really looking forward to supporting Kara as she gains more experience on the trails, and I can’t wait to share the product we have been developing with her.”
Rafal Nazaerewicz created Spring to solve GI issues he was experiencing with commercially available products during ultra-running events, and used the knowledge he had gained through his Ph.D. in Human Nutrition to develop a healthy product that would aid his performance. Spring’s approach is to draw from nature and to source their real food fuel and recovery blends with ingredients like whole fruit, basmati rice, almonds, walnuts, maple syrup, coconut oil, chia seeds, sunflower seeds, cassava and mint. Kara Goucher has been using a mix of the Spring line throughout her training and racing, and is currently developing a co-branded line with Rafal that suits the unique fueling and nutrition needs for shorter ultra-running events and road marathons.
“Spring played a vital role for me in preparation for and during Leadville,” added Kara Goucher. “Fueling was always a struggle for me throughout my road marathon career, and with Spring I found a product that worked really well with my body that also aligns with the natural foods I strive to feed myself and my family. I truly believe the product we are working on together is going to help a lot of people, while, of course, tasting great.”
About Spring Sports Nutrition
Spring was founded in 2014 by Rafal Nazarewicz, PhD ( a sports nutrition scientist, ultra runner, and a health fanatic), and Adam Goleniewski (an entrepreneur, creative and a foodie) with a strong belief that sports nutrition can be approached in a novel way combining healthy foods, scientific knowledge, and great taste. The notion that food is a powerful source of energy and does not need to be corrected in a laboratory led to the creation of a range of Spring products. Spring products are made with real foods providing carbohydrates, fats, and proteins that are prized by numerous athletes for not causing GI distress and providing much more stable energy than traditional energy gels. This innovative approach quickly gained the interest of world best runners including Kilian Jornet, Sage Canaday, Remi Bonnet, Jason Schlarb, Rea Kolbl, Amanda Basham, David Laney, Sally McRae, Martina Valmassoi, Beth Pascall, Kelly Wolf, Mark Hammond, Cody Reed, and many others.
