November 19, 2018 – NORFOLK, VIRGINIA – Nearly 6,000 runners and walkers crossed the finish line of the sold-out Chartway Norfolk Harbor Half Marathon Weekend presented Bon Secours DePaul Orthopedics. The three-day event included a half marathon, half marathon relay, 5K and kids mile.
“This was the 5th annual Chartway Norfolk Harbor Half Marathon, and it is exciting to see this race grow year after year. Being part of the holiday kickoff weekend in Norfolk makes a great experience for all our runners,” said Jerry Frostick, co-owner of J&A Racing. “From watching runners and walkers cross the finish line to seeing Santa in the Grand Illumination Parade, this weekend reminds us all of the magic of believing.”
Roger Hopper of Norfolk, Virginia, won the Chartway Norfolk Harbor Half Marathon with a finish time of 1:14:01. The winner of the half marathon on the women’s side was Leia Lautzenheiser of Midlothian, Virginia. She broke the tape in 1:25:43.
“It was perfect today: great weather, the course was good, good competition. This was my first time running this race, and it was great. I love running through all the hot spots of Norfolk,” said Hopper.
After crossing the finish line, participants headed to a post-race party at Town Point Park to enjoy Blue Moon beer, Refuel Stew from the Culinary Institute of Virginia, and live music.
“Today was a celebration of the City of Norfolk. The course was absolutely amazing. It was flat. It was fast. There were lots of people cheering us on. I couldn’t have asked for a better day,” said Anne Furlow, who participated in both the 5K on Saturday and the half marathon on Sunday for the Get Nauti Challenge.
