New route to start and finish in downtown Solvang, showcasing more than 12 wineries along the route
It’s 13.1-miles of racing and tasting with a new race route in 2019. Nearly 2,000 runners will experience the beautiful Santa Ynez Valley as the 12th annual Santa Barbara Wine Country Half Marathon will take over the streets of downtown Solvang on Saturday, May 11.
In 2019, the event will include a brand new half-marathon course that will start and finish in Solvang Park. Runners will start amidst the windmills and Danish bakeries in downtown Solvang, run along the rolling hills, vineyards and 12 wineries before finishing on Copenhagen Drive in the heart of historic Solvang. After crossing the finish line, participants are invited to join family and friends to kick back, relax, sip and savor wines from 20 wineries at the post-race Wine & Music Festival in Solvang Park.
“This is a scenic course that will provide runners a first class tour of the Santa Barbara’s beautiful wine country,” said event manager Aiyana Welsh. “The course changes will not only make race morning more convenient, we are also able to highlight even more of the charm and history the community of Solvang has to offer and are thrilled to showcase the region to thousands of runners from around the world in May.”
Race weekend kicks off Friday, May 10 with a free fitness expo in downtown Solvang open to the public. The Expo, where all participants must pick up their bib number and race packet, will be held at Solvang Park from 1:00pm to 7:00pm. Over 50 exhibitors will feature free nutritional samples, the latest in running gear and sports apparel, as well as a series of interactive clinics.
