Moorestown, NJ – RunSignUp has released their biannual Registration Market Analysis, an effort to evaluate the true endurance market share in an industry without a comprehensive aggregator for all data. To build a three dimensional image of the market place, the analysis includes the following:
- RunningintheUSA Market Share: Race Listings on the largest race calendar in the US, with 47,936 races listed. While this is a good overview of the registration providers at play, the site uses automated API to load races from Active.com, RunSignUp, and Race Entry, meaning those sites are probably unfairly represented.
- Next Month (October) Market Share: October Race Listings for major registration vendors, as found on each company’s website. This excludes some providers that do not maintain a calendar, and can be inaccurate if race listings are included when they are not using the provider for registration.
- Turkey Trots: Since Thanksgiving is the biggest single racing day of the year, a count of Turkey Trots on each site can offer a snapshot of each provider’s status.
- Alexa Rankings: Traffic-based rankings for all US websites that provides an accurate image of how busy each registration site is. This can vary widely due to the range in the marketplace, with some providers focusing solely on the endurance market, and others including business in multiple markets (for example, EventBrite, Active, and Events.com).
From this data, RunSignUp was able to conclude that they believe they are at approximately 12% market share, with 4 million paid registrations in 2017. The analysis is open and available to everyone in the industry for further conclusions: https://runsignup.wordpress.com/2017/09/07/u-s-registration-market-analysis-september-2017/
