November 30, 2015 – As runners around the United States took to the streets and the trails on Thanksgiving Day, RunSignUp technology was behind the scenes from registration through final results notifications. While 223 Races used RunSignUp for registration – registering 212,000 runners online on RunSignUp – the open technology platform was utilized even by races with registration on other platforms. Races of all sizes registered their runners on RunSignUp, including the 120th annual running of the oldest Turkey Trot in the country: the sellout 15,000 participant YMCA Buffalo Niagara Turkey Trot. Other prominent Turkey Trots with registration through RunSignUp included:
Chase Columbus Turkey Trot, Columbus OH (8,000 runners)
GE Run Thru the Woods, Woodlands TX (5,000 runners)
ERC Turkey Trot, Erie PA (4,500 runners)
Webster Turkey Trot, Webster NY (4,300 runners)
Lansing Turkey Trot, Lansing MI (4,000 runners)
Valparaiso Turkey Trot, Valparaiso IN (4,000 runners)
Long Grove Turkey Trot, Long Grove IL (4,000 runners)
York YMCA 5K Turkey Trot, York PA (4,000 runners)
Huffing for Stuffing, Bozeman UT (3,000 runners)
Turkey Trot for the Marisa Fund, Congers NY (2,600 runners)
In addition to registration, pre-race use of RunSignUp included the built in email marketing system that Race Directors used to send over 2 million emails to their contacts, both to promote their event and to communicate with registered participants. Ten Races also took advantage of the new free, online/offline compatible Check-In app to check in 12,000+ runners.
Post-race, 104 races used RunSignUp for results. The open nature of the platform allowed even races that did not use RunSignUp for registration – like the ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot – to take advantage of the clean, flexible results platform and plug their results into their website via a customizable widget. Of those 100+ races, 36 also used the Results Notification system to send out 45,000+ results notifications to runners via TXT and Email.
Even on Thanksgiving Day, the desire of Runners to have instant, accessible results was obvious. Over 86,000 people viewed 366,000+ RunSignUp pages on Thanksgiving Day, with the majority focused on results pages. The importance of a mobile-friendly, responsive platform was evident: 80% of views on Thanksgiving came from a mobile device (61% from IOS and 18% from Android).
