Running For Office Launches Registration for Election-Themed Virtual Challenges

August 20, 2020

Inaugural event invites participants to exercise for the 20 days leading up to the 2020 election

VIRTUAL EVENT — The Running For Office Virtual Challenge (RFO) is a digital running event aimed at mobilizing the democratic electorate to #exercisetovote for the 20 days leading up to the 2020 election. Registration opened on Wednesday, August 19th and runs through October 14th. For 20 days, Running For Office challenges participants to exercise in support of equality, diversity, inclusion, and most simply put, humanity. $12 of every paid entry fee will be donated directly to America Votes to protect every American’s right to vote and help advance progressive policies across America. RFO hopes to enlist a community of like-minded progressive individuals to support Joe Biden and the historic appointment of Kamala Harris, the first woman of color on a major party ticket.

“Running For Office is the simple opportunity to do something (anything!), and to do it with two other passionate women pushing for a better tomorrow,” wrote Michelle La Sala of Blistering Pace Race Management, one of the three women spearheading the event. “I have continuously wondered what I could actually do [during the pandemic] that would matter, and this is it.”

Starting October 14th, participants will be invited to begin logging results for three running or walking-based exercise challenges. The cost to participate is $40 for access to all three “2020-themed” challenges. Entrants can choose to complete as many challenges as they like and in any order within the 20-day timeframe. All participants receive a custom face mask from BOCO Gear, crafted specifically for high-output exercises like running, upon registration, and a custom branded beanie from BOCO Gear after the challenge window ends in early November.

The three optional challenges are as follows:

  • Challenge 1: Run/Walk 20 minutes for 20 days: Simply walk or run every day between October 14th and November 2nd for 20 minutes and log your results.
  • Challenge 2: Run/Walk 20 miles within 20 days: Run a total of 20 miles between October 14th and November 2nd and log your results. 20 miles can be completed in as many outings as desired.
  • Challenge 3: Two (2.0) mile time trial: See how fast you can complete 2.0 miles between October 14th and November 2nd and log your results.

The Running For Office Virtual Challenge was created to mobilize passionate, progressive citizens to donate to and vote for the Biden/Harris ticket while investing in their own health and wellbeing.
