Denver CO – Rudy Project North America, exclusive distributors of Italian-made endurance sports gear, has partnered with the documentary ‘GODSPEED: The Race Across America’ to bring the inspiring story of two cyclists and their team Enduring Hope into more than 650 select movie theaters for one special night on Tuesday, May 22, at 7:00 pm local time. The documentary chronicles the harrowing journey of ultra-cyclist/sportscaster Jerry Schemmel, who joins forces with IRONMAN© triathlete/CEO Brad Cooper, in the world’s most grueling endurance bicycle race – The Race Across America (RAAM). The duo battle opponents, extreme terrain and weather, inner demons and occasionally each other, to reach both their dreams and be transformed by the experience, all while wearing Rudy Project’s award-winning eyewear and helmets.
“RAAM is a grueling experience, and not to be attempted by the faint of heart,” said Paul Craig, Co-Founder and Co-CEO of Rudy Project North America. “It’s gripping to watch these two guys go through some of the most extreme terrain in the US, while racing other teams and constantly pushing themselves to the limit. You can’t look away. It’s a testament to the quality of our equipment that they chose to race in our helmets and eyewear.”
The “GODSPEED” event gives audiences nationwide a firsthand account of what it is like to face inner and external challenges, while testing the limits of friendship on this grueling trek across the country. As the documentary goes behind the scenes with the first-time race team of Cooper and Schemmel, through alternating shifts or pulls, the duo will attempt to pedal 168 hours non-stop from Oceanside, California, to the finish line in Annapolis, Maryland, raising money for the orphans of Haiti. All the while they depend on the protection and aerodynamic comfort of Rudy Project helmets and sunglasses. Brad Cooper sports the Wingspan aero helmet, which keeps him fast and cool in 90 plus degree heat through the Arizona desert, coupled with Rudy Project’s Genetyk and Hypermask frames for wrap around protection. “At night, you need transparent lenses,” said Brad Cooper. “Rudy Project makes some great ones.” Jerry opts for the Rush road helmet, along with the Genetyk frame with photochromic ImpactX-2 lenses for optimal light management, ideal for the changing conditions riders encounter on the RAAM route.
As the Official Helmet of RAAM, Rudy Project North America is perfectly situated to partner with GODSPEED and Fathom Events to promote the documentary to athletes and audiences across the country. While not an official sponsor of Team Enduring Hope, Rudy Project has sponsored other RAAM teams, such as Team Love, Sweat, and Gears for three successful years. The race is infamous for challenging racers to their absolute limit; only about half of the contestants finish the 3000 mile route from Oceanside, CA, to Annapolis, MD every year.
“Rudy Project has been with us for 3 years as a sponsor. The quality, comfort, and fit of their helmets are ideal for RAAM races; they provide vital protection while reducing prolonged fatigue,” said Rick Boethling, Executive Director for RAAM. “Plus they’re aerodynamically engineered – a major consideration when you’re putting in the distances at the speeds these athletes are going.”
The film has been lauded as “inspirational,” “stunning,” and “Incredibly meaningful” by many in the endurance sports community.
“GODSPEED will inspire movie theater audiences with its uplifting story of resolve, conviction and the strength of the human spirit,” Fathom Events CEO Ray Nutt said. “This event resonates with both cycling fans and those looking to strengthen their faith in challenging times.”
