ARLINGTON, Virginia – September 10, 2012- The Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) developed the Kids Run the Nation Fund in 2007 to assists organizations interested in implementing or currently hosting youth running programs. Small grants from the Kids Run the Nation Fund are awarded on an annual basis through an application and selection process. Since the inception year, the RRCA has granted over $50,000 to 73 youth running programs across the country.
“We are thrilled to announce that in 2012, the RRCA will again be able to grant a total of $20,000 due to strong fundraising support for the program. We continue to see significant growth with nearly 30,000 children participating across America logging over 639,000 miles in the past two years alone,” explained Jean Knaack, RRCA executive director.
The RRCA will award small grants ranging from $500–$1,000 to 20 or more organizations with the IRS 501(c)3 designation including schools and nonprofits. Eligible programs include multi-week, youth running programs catered towards children in grade K-12 taking place during or after school. The Kids Run the Nation Grants will not fund youth races or entry fees for competitive teams.
The Kids Run the Nation Program is a gender-inclusive turnkey program which allows each program to be constructed differently, motivating children to run for 15-60 minutes a day and are typically held several days a week. Program directors, coaches, and teachers have led this movement aimed at reducing the youth obesity epidemic this country faces while showing children that the sport of running is enjoyable.
The deadline to apply for a Kids Run the Nation grant is October 31 and is intended to assist programs within a 12 month period. Learn more about the Kids Run the Nation Fund, the grant criteria, and apply for a grant.
