The marketing & business development firm will provide start line blankets to Charity Program runners for the first time in Chicago Marathon history
CHICAGO, May 29, 2018 – Root3 Marketing & Business Development, announces its first year as a Bank of America Chicago Marathon associate sponsor and will provide Heatsheets® heat retention blankets at the start line to race charity runners.
The innovative Root3 is building on the tradition of handing out of Heatsheets at the finish line by also distributing at the race start to keep Bank of America Chicago Marathon Charity Program runners warm and comfortable before the race. The average race day temperature as runners head to the starting corrals is often around 40 degrees and can be much colder.
“Our idea was born from spending many, many miserable hours in the cold and rain walking to starting lines and waiting for races to begin,” says Root3 Founder Scott Christiansen. “This sponsorship allows us to send our own ‘thank you’ to the nearly 10,000 Charity Program runners, many of whom are tackling a marathon for the first time, who have met their generous fundraising goals. Keeping nonprofit runners safe and warm aligns with Root3’s culture of volunteering and helping nonprofits grow.”
“We are excited to partner with Root3 and Heatsheets to provide our charity participants with this new and unique opportunity,” said Carey Pinkowski, Bank of America Chicago Marathon executive race director. “Since the founding of the Bank of America Chicago Marathon Charity Program, we’ve had thousands of runners choose to make their experience more meaningful by running and fundraising on behalf of a cause. Our partnership with Root3, allows us to recognize these individuals for their fundraising efforts and will help to enhance their pre-race experience.”
The Bank of America Chicago Marathon, part of the Abbott World Marathon Majors race series, will be held on Sunday, Oct. 7. The annual event assists in raising millions of dollars for hundreds of charitable organizations.
Bank of America Chicago Marathon volunteers will collect the Heatsheets at the start line for recycling. Through its Blankets to Boards program, the gathered Root3 branded blankets will be turned into a bench soon to be installed in a Chicago Park District park.
Christiansen is excited for this opportunity as it enables him to combine his passions for endurance racing, supporting nonprofits, and helping businesses grow together at one iconic race event.
“We believe growing a business is an endurance event, just like the Bank of America Chicago Marathon,” explains Christiansen. “We have developed 26.2 Training Tips for Growing your Business and will be releasing one tip per week leading up to the marathon. A full download of the tips will be available after the race.”
