Rockstar All Access moves forward with Highway 61 Challenge

February 8, 2021

RSAA, Inc. announces Highway 61 Challenge, a 500 mile 4-day bike ride from Memphis to New Orleans set to roll in late March.

February 08, 2021 Memphis, TN – Rockstar All Access announces today it has finalized plans to move forward with the inaugural Highway 61 Challenge. The ride is set to roll on March 25th from the Guesthouse at Graceland in Memphis, TN. Covering 500 miles the ride will take participants south along Highway 61, making stops in Cleveland, MS, Vicksburg, MS, and Baton Rouge, LA, before wrapping up at Audubon Park in New Orleans, LA 4 days later.

Highway 61, known as the “blues highway,” rivals Route 66 as the most famous road in American music lore. Dozens of blues artists have recorded songs about Highway 61, including Mississippians Sunnyland Slim, James “Son” Thomas, “Honeyboy” Edwards, Big Joe Williams, Joe McCoy, Charlie Musselwhite, Eddie Shaw, Johnny Young, Eddie Burns, and Mississippi Fred McDowell. Travel has been a popular theme in blues lyrics, and highways have symbolized the potential to quickly “pack up and go,” leave troubles behind, or seek out new opportunities elsewhere.

Event Director – Thomas Walls commented on the challenge by saying,“The challenge here is in the distance itself, 500 miles covering 22 counties or parishes and 3 states. This route has been a logistical challenge for me as an organizer and while I hope our participants will recognize the hard work, we have put into the organization of this ride, my goal is that at the end of the challenge they will remember the journey”.

The Highway 61 Challenge has also teamed up with the Children’s Hospital of New Orleans and is donating a percentage of all registrations back to the hospital.
