Event attracts more than 21,000 entrants, up 11.7% year-over-year; Rascal Flatts to headline post race Toyota Rock ‘n’ Roll Concert Series
SAVANNAH – November 6, 2015 – Rock ‘n’ Roll Savannah Marathon & ½ Marathon is returning this weekend, Nov. 7 – 8, and will celebrate a milestone anniversary of five-years running and continued growth of 11.7 percent year-over-year. More than 21,000 runners from all 50 states and 24 countries will descend upon Georgia’s charming coastal city to partake in two-days of running.
Event weekend features a marathon, half-marathon and two-person half-marathon relay on Saturday and the Rock ‘n’ Roll 5K, 1-mile race and KiDS ROCK fun run on Sunday. Participants can take the “Remix Challenge” by running any distance Saturday and the 5K on Sunday to earn the coveted Remix Challenge medal in addition to each race’s finisher medals.
“This will be our fifth year running in Savannah and we are thrilled to be back to celebrate this anniversary with our runners and the city,” said Erica Wood, Event Manager. “Savannah is a beautiful place and a great destination to run in the fall. The city has a lot to offer and participants can expect a great course along with charming restaurants and historic sightseeing.”
Rock ‘n’ Roll Savannah Marathon & ½ Marathon will start at Bay Street and Bull Street and finish at Forsyth Park. The course will take runners on a tour of Savannah through charming town squares, historic buildings and under canopies of Spanish moss covered trees. The 5K and One Mile run will take place at Daffin Park.
The electrifying energy of live, local bands, motivating cheer teams and thousands of encouraging spectators will entertain runners as they journey along the course. Upon finishing, runners are invited to relax and celebrate with family and friends at the post-race Toyota Rock ‘n’ Roll Concert Series featuring Rascal Flatts.
KiDS ROCK also returns on Sunday and allows children in grades K-7 the opportunity to participate over race weekend by running one-mile, while Kindergartners run a half-mile. Hundreds of children come out for this race, which will take place in Daffin Park.
Race weekend kicks off with a free Health & Fitness Expo, where runners can find the latest in running technologies, fitness apparel, health and nutrition information and interactive displays. The Expo takes place at the Savannah International Trade & Convention Center on Thursday, November 5 from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Friday, November 6 from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. The Expo is free and open to the public.
