DUBLIN, Ireland – November 17, 2015 – Rock ‘n’ Roll Dublin Half Marathon opened registration today for the 2016 race, taking place on Sunday, August 7th. The race also reported that the 2015 event weekend generated a total economic impact of over €4.9 million for the local economy, according to a study conducted by American-based San Diego State University.

More than 7,500 registered participants from 48 countries took part in the 3rd annual event this year. Forty-eight percent of participants travelled from outside of Ireland including 1,600 runners from Great Britain and 1,100 participants from the United States. Females made up more than half of the participant field.

The average length of stay for spectators in commercial lodging was 3.37 nights. Therefore, visiting spectators for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Dublin Half Marathon produced 5,979 bed-nights. At an average nightly rate of €118.63, this amounted to over €700,000 in accommodation spending.

Rob Griffiths, Race Director said “This year’s race was a great success and took place for the first time on a Sunday instead of Bank Holiday Monday. Runners from around the world enjoyed non-stop entertainment over race weekend, while soaking in all that Dublin City has to offer. We’re thrilled to come back for year four in 2016 and will once again bring a memorable, world-class event to Ireland’s most visited destination. Our event is continuing to grow and we’ll be announcing new additions to the race weekend experience in the coming months.”

The 2016 Rock ‘n’ Roll Dublin Half Marathon is known for lining the course with fanfare and live entertainment. The half-marathon starts at 8:30 am at Dublin’s Docklands area, running along the north side of the Liffey River and offers a scenic tour of Dublin’s city centre, passing many famous landmarks including Ha’Penny bridge, Christ Church Cathedral, Brazen Head Pub (Ireland’s oldest pub), James Joyce Museum, and the Guinness Brewery. The 3K Family Fun Run starts in Phoenix Park at 11:45 am, allowing participants to run both distances if desired.
