Endurance charity racing team to raise funds for disaster relief projects and home rebuilding
ASBURY PARK, July 15, 2014 – Almost two years later, thousands of families in the tri-state area, including the Jersey Shore, are still struggling to rebuild from Hurricane Sandy.Race2Rebuild, an endurance charity racing program that supports disaster relief projects, will continue to assist this cause by acting as the new official charity of the 2nd annual TriRock Asbury Park Triathlon on Sunday, August 24.
“We are tremendously grateful to be the official charity of TriRock Asbury Park Triathlon, especially since thousands of families feel forgotten and are still struggling to get home after Hurricane Sandy,” said Sarah Hartmann, President, Race2Rebuild. “Racing and volunteering with Race2Rebuild is a tangible way for people to get involved and helps to stabilize and revitalize neighborhoods still in need following the disaster.”
Participants in the Sprint and Olympic races as well as relay teams have the opportunity to race for the cause by joining Race2Rebuild’s TEAM 1 and raising funds for disaster relief efforts. Participants who raise a minimum of $250 receive a custom gear package from Race2Rebuild sponsors, with special prizes for top fundraisers on race day. Additionally, Race2Rebuild sponsor JackRabbit Sports will host an exclusive course preview event at their Upper East Side location on August 13. Following the race, athletes can meet the family they support, volunteer with national nonprofit Rebuilding Together and help rebuild their home. Volunteers and spectators can also get involved by making a contribution to help a local family come home.
“Thanks to relief efforts following Hurricane Sandy, our inaugural race last year was able to finish on the famous boardwalk and we’re thrilled to partner with an organization deeply committed to the ongoing recovery of the community,” said Molly Quinn, VP of TriRock Triathlon Series. “In partnership with Race2Rebuild, we look forward to helping bring even more families home after the devastating hurricane two years ago.”
In its inaugural year, Race2Rebuild raised funds to rebuild homes that were destroyed by Hurricane Sandy through racing two New York City area races, and later had the opportunity to volunteer with Rebuilding Together to rebuild homes. Now in its second year, Race2Rebuild has expanded its partnerships with races, including TriRock Asbury Park Triathlon, to continue fundraising for Rebuilding Together projects to help rebuild homes that were destroyed in natural disasters.
TriRock Asbury Park features a beach start with an ocean swim, flat and fast bike course and finishes with a run on the famous Asbury Park boardwalk. New to the race this year, participants will have the opportunity to enjoy more beach and boardwalk by racing the Olympic distance. Participants will be treated to a finish line festival with a beer garden, free breakfast, red carpet finish and a post-race concert.
