Rock ‘n’ Roll Oaxaca Half Marathon to debut on Sunday, April 29, 2018

TAMPA, Fla./OAXACA, México On Sunday, April 29, two popular Mexican rock groups, Kinky and Inspector, will co-headline the inaugural edition of the Rock ‘n’ Roll® Oaxaca Half Marathon, continuing the tradition of bringing fun to the run with great music at the core in this new destination running event. The race will be at night with an 8 p.m. start time.  The finish line festival concert, at the Polideportivo CECUDE (Comisión Estatal de Cultura Física y Deporte) park, will begin at 9:00 p.m.

“Kinky and Inspector are the perfect acts to co-headline this inaugural Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series® event in Oaxaca,” said Stacy Campbell, Vice President of Global Events. “These hugely successful, regionally significant and highly entertaining bands are sure to complement the rich Mexican history and culture that the area has to offer, making this a great destination for runners from around the world.”

Since the band formed in the year 2000, Kinky has become one of the most influential groups across Latin America. The band’s cultural and musical diversity is reflective of their roots in Monterrey and has made them a benchmark for electronic music worldwide, with soundtrack editions in many countries including the U.S., Colombia, Venezuela, Chile, Argentina, Spain and back home in Mexico.

Kinky has been performing together for more than 16 years at venues across the U.S., Latin America, Asia and even as far as Australia. They have been special guests of many well-known international artists such as The Flaming Lips, Cake, Modest Mouse, De La Soul, Shakira, the Lonely Boys, Beck, Norah Jones and Vasco Rossi. They have also made TV appearances on shows such as the Late Show with David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson and MTV Video Music Awards. The band has received numerous awards and nominations including a Grammy for Musical Engineering, a Grammy nomination for best Latin rock band, and six nominations at the MTV Video Music Awards.

Inspector has been in the international rock scene since 1995. This ska-rock fusion band, also from Monterrey, was part of the 1990s ska-music boom, making them a unique and popular act around Mexico.

Their first record, Blanco y Negro, produced independently in 1998, earned them a “Best New Band of the Year” awarded by Nuestro Rock magazine. However, in 2002 it was their second record, Alma en Fuego, that launched them to fame and led to signing up with one of the biggest record companies, Sony Music. With the fusion of rock, ska and reggae, Inspector’s inimitable sound has won the hearts of all their fans and turned them into a generational icon.

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Oaxaca Half Marathon will start and finish at the Polideportivo CECUDE and will pass by the city’s famous and historic sites including the Cathedral, Macedonio Alcalá Teather, Oaxaca center stores, Oaxaca City Street, Oaxaca walk way and Oaxaca Centro, with additional bands and DJs performing at music stations along the course, bringing fun to the run.

Race weekend will begin with a free two-day Health & Fitness Expo, where runners can find the latest in running technologies, fitness apparel, health and nutrition information and interactive displays. The expo takes place at Ciudad de Las Canteras Convention Center on Friday, April 27 from noon to 8 p.m. and Saturday, April 28 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
