Outside Interactive, Inc. and Toyota Trucks Raise the Bar for Ultimate Mountain Athlete Season 2
July 6, 2026

Featuring an expanded eight-episode format, all-new Toyota Truck integration, and the addition of X Games icon Craig McMorris, the hit series returns to Colorado’s San Juan Mountains on June 29
BOULDER, CO (July 6, 2026) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ — Outside Interactive Inc., the world’s leading creator of outdoor content, services, events, and experiences, is thrilled to announce the highly anticipated series return of Ultimate Mountain Athlete (UMA) for Season 2, presented by Toyota Trucks. Following an award-winning inaugural season, the groundbreaking multi-discipline competition docuseries returns with massive upgrades, including a longer broadcast format, deeper participant storytelling, and an elevated terrain setup.
The competition returns to the heart of Colorado’s rugged San Juan Mountains, testing the athletes’ physical skills and mental fortitude across three core alpine disciplines: backcountry skiing, mountain biking, and sport climbing. However, this season introduces a brand-new community-driven format. For 2026, Outside launched an open call for public athlete submissions across its network. From a pool of elite contenders, the outdoor adventure community actively cast public votes to lock in the final selection of eight top-tier athletes (four men and four women) to battle it out head-to-head.
Adding to the elevated stakes, this year’s winners will walk away with a $40,000 cash prize ($20,000 each) provided by Toyota Trucks.
“Season 1 proved that the multi-sport outdoor lifestyle deeply resonates with our audience—outdoor enthusiasts don’t stick to just one discipline, and neither should the elite athletes we admire,” says Sam Moulton, series executive producer and Outside VP, Creative Solutions and Strategy. “For Season 2, the caliber of athleticism is insane, the competition is beefier, and by expanding to eight episodes, we are delivering significantly deeper storytelling and unscripted drama.”
The multi-year strategic partnership with Toyota has expanded as well. While Season 1 highlighted the launch of the Tacoma, Season 2 seamlessly integrates the entire Toyota Trucks family of body-on-frame vehicles—including the Tacoma, Land Cruiser, Tundra, 4Runner, and Sequoia—across a variety of challenging off-road environments. Episodes will feature a dedicated, visually stunning “Vehicle Village” lineup showcase, behind-the-scenes travel features to the competitors’ hometowns, and intimate athlete interviews captured directly inside the trucks en route to competition venues.
For Season 2 of Ultimate Mountain Athlete, we’re proud to expand our vehicle lineup to five Toyota models, giving athletes the capability and confidence to tackle every stage of their adventure,” said Colin Homan, Communities Media Analyst, Toyota Motor North America. “Our partnership with Outside celebrates the spirit of exploration and endurance, highlighting the epic adventures Toyota trucks and SUVs are built to make possible.”
This season also brings fresh energy to the host booth. Joining returning big-mountain veteran Amie Engerbretson is action-sports royalty and Canadian board culture icon Craig McMorris. Known for his extensive background as an X Games veteran and Olympic broadcaster, McMorris brings elite athletic insight paired with a magnetic personality to the commentary desk.
The first two of eight 30-minute episodes debuted on June 29 on Outside TV, with subsequent episodes dropping weekly into late July. The series will be widely distributed across the Outside ecosystem, including the Outside+ subscription service, the Outside CTV and Linear TV channels, Outside Watch VOD (website and app), and the Outside TV YouTube channel.
