Ruess emerged on the scene in 2001 when he joined indie group The Format best known for albums Interventions + Lullabies and Dog Problem. In 2009, he formed the band Fun famous for hit singles “We Are Young” and “Some Nights,” both songs were Billboard chart-toppers respectively. Fun has won two Grammy Awards including, Best New Artist and for the song “We Are Young.” Ruess recently released his first solo album Grand Romantic.
“Nate Ruess will be an epic finish to our inaugural Brooklyn race,” said Keli Kadota Entertainment Manager of the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series. “His indie vibe will be the perfect way for participants to celebrate their 13.1 mile accomplishment in New York’s most populous borough. We are thrilled to introduce this race to the Brooklyn community and can’t wait to celebrate with our runners this fall.”
First held in 2011 as a 10k in Prospect Park, Rock ‘n’ Roll Brooklyn will bring the series’ signature block-party atmosphere to 13.1-miles of New York’s scenic tree-lined streets. On race day, participants can expect motivation along every mile of the course – from entertainment and music to cheering spectators and picturesque surroundings. The event has partnered with the The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to provide a platform for participants to run for blood cancer research through their Team In Training (TNT) program.
Race weekend activities begin with a free two-day Health & Fitness Expo where all participants go to pick up their race number, gear bag and t-shirt. This ultimate running showcase will kick off Thursday, October 8 at the Brooklyn Expo Center featuring dozens of exhibits, free nutritional samples and interactive clinics.
The Rock ‘n’ Brooklyn Half Marathon will start at Grand Army Plaza and finish at Prospect Park. The course will take runners on a tour of Brooklyn’s diverse neighborhoods with live bands, motivating cheer teams and thousands of encouraging spectators entertaining participants along the route.
