Milestone Achieved: Ring In the 25th Year of the Rio Del Lago Endurance Runs, presented by Altra
July 22, 2026
July 22, 2026 /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – November 7 2026 marks an important milestone for the Rio Del Lago Endurance Runs, presented by Altra. Beginning in 2000, this stunning 100 mile course takes runners on a journey through some of the best trails Northern California has to offer. Cool temperatures, immaculate vibes, and a competitive course provide the perfect 100 mile experience to those rounding off their year with a long day out on the trails.
A Quarter Century of History
Rio Del Lago has a long and respected history in Northern California trail running. The event was established under the direction of Norm and Helen Klein and was held each September in conjunction with Sierra Nevada 52.4 mile race. NorCalUltras assumed management of Rio Del Lago in 2014 and moved the event to November to provide runners with cooler conditions and reduce the potential impacts of heat and wildfires.
Since then, the event has continued to evolve while maintaining its commitment to delivering a high-quality endurance experience. In 2022, the Rio Del Lago 50K was added to race weekend, expanding participation opportunities while continuing the event’s tradition of showcasing the scenic trails of the Folsom Lake & Auburn State Recreation Areas.
The 2026 Rio Del Lago 100 Mile marks the 25th running of the event, celebrating a quarter-century of endurance racing since the inaugural race in 2000. With the exception of 2009 and 2020, the event has run every year with support from its wonderful community.
Community Partnerships
Working with Altra has been an important part of race production. As noted by Colby Gould, Sports Marketing Manager at Altra:
“Altra is a proud partner of Rio del Lago and NorCalUltras. Julie & her team have built a truly special community around this race over the past 25 years, fostering a strong tradition & community around Rio while continuing to evolve as the sport and needs of runners change. We can’t wait to see what the next 25 years bring and are honored to play a small part in supporting this amazing race.”
NorCalUltras is excited to continue their partnership with Altra, and looks forward to another successful year of racing together.
Fast Times and Good Vibes
Rio Del Lago presents an opportunity for first timers to dip their toes into the distance, while at the same time veterans can shoot for PRs. If not ready for the 100 mile, the 50K distance is a great way to experience the magic of Rio.
The RDL race course is a compilation of the iconic Way Too Cool and American River Endurance Runs. Crew access is frequent and aid stations are well stocked, with volunteers returning to their posts year after year.
Captains of Rio Del Lago aid stations have been in it for the long haul, and know exactly what runners need. Runners can look forward to 10 aid stations, each with their own personality and ambiance, boasting snacks such as Skratch, Neversecond, JAMBARS, Coke, Ginger Ale, Red Bull, as well as broth and quesadillas at night. The enthusiasm and support of every volunteer and race production team member is felt by all participants during their time on the trails.
