Margaritaville Run Brings Thousands to San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter

SAN DIEGO — August 10, 2026 /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – Thousands of runners and walkers filled the streets of San Diego’s historic Gaslamp Quarter on Saturday morning for the inaugural Margaritaville Run San Diego Gaslamp 5K/10K.

The race began on Fifth Avenue beneath the iconic Gaslamp Quarter sign and ended with a poolside celebration at the Margaritaville Resort Hotel.

Along the way, participants turned the downtown course into a moving beach party, wearing tropical shirts, leis and island-themed costumes, with pirates, parrots and plenty of Parrot Head energy filling the route.

San Diego resident Jessica Carlson, who won the women’s 10K, said the four-loop format created an unusually social race experience.

“It was awesome running alongside people the whole time,” Carlson said. “You had runners from across the race out there on every loop, and everyone was cheering each other on.”

Carlson said the finish-line atmosphere reflected what makes the running community special.

“There was really good energy,” she said. “People were dressed up, cheering and just having a good time.”

After finishing, participants gathered for music, medals, refreshments and a complimentary margarita for runners and walkers 21 and older.

The event benefited Give Kids The World, which provides cost-free wish vacations for children with critical illnesses and their families.

Formerly the Gaslamp 5K/10K, the race has been reimagined as Margaritaville Run San Diego Gaslamp, adding a festival atmosphere to a longtime downtown tradition.
