LISBON, PORTUGAL—March 14, 2013—Competitor Group Europe and its parent company, Competitor Group, Inc. (CGI), the leading active lifestyle sports media and event entertainment company in the United States, today announced that the EDP Rock ‘n’ Roll Lisbon and Vodafone Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon will take place Sunday, October 6. Registration for the races is now available online at

EDP Rock ‘n’ Roll Lisbon and and Vodafone Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon will feature separate courses, with the half marathon starting at Vasco da Gama Bridge and the full marathon beginning in the beautiful beach city of Cascais. After touring the city of Lisbon, the flat and fast courses will unite and finish at Parque das Nações, where the 1998 World Exposition took place. The race also includes a shorter distance Mini Marathon sponsored by EDP, which starts and finishes at the same location as the half marathon and allows for wider participation.

“The new date in October will not only bring chances for better weather, but is likely to attract a stronger elite field with faster times and will also be an attractive time for tourists,” said Tom Godfrey, General Manager of Europe for Competitor Group. “We take special care in choosing destinations we know that runners will love and clearly Lisbon is an ideal location for our races since the Vodafone Rock ‘n’ Roll Half Marathon sold out last year. We anticipate even more interest this year with the addition of the marathon.”

The marathon course starts outside of Lisbon and runs 13 miles down the coast. Spectacular vistas await runners as the musically themed 26.2 mile course weaves along the River Tagus and past Lisbon’s historic landmarks, rich architecture, spectacular churches, and numerous cultural attractions. Live bands and cheering spectators will line both race courses, concluding with a celebratory finish line festival.

The Maratona Clube and Competitor also collaborate on two other races in Portugal including the EDP Lisbon Half Marathon in March, and Corrida da Mulher 5k women’s race in May.

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series started as a single race in 1998 in the United States, and is now the World’s Largest Running Series that has grown to 32 events worldwide. The international series of musically-themed races uniquely combine entertainment with a scenic road course. Last year, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series added three new international races to round out a European tour schedule featuring Edinburgh, Madrid, Dublin, Lisbon, and Nice.
