Life Time Tri to Expand Efforts in 2019, Including Hosting the Largest Indoor Triathlon Series in History

MINNEAPOLIS, Oct. 26, 2018—Following a successful 2018 season that included several new athlete-friendly innovations and format changes, Life Time Tri is looking to expand upon its efforts in 2019 and welcome even more first-timers. Owned and operated by Life Time, the nation’s only healthy way of life company, Life Time Tri will continue to make the sport simpler, more accessible and more exciting for both returning and new participants, reversing the typical trend in triathlon.

The Life Time Tri outdoor race series attracted nearly 23,000 registrants across its eight 2018 events, equating to 3 percent growth year over year. Of key interest is an increase of first-timer participation by 19 percent. Life Time Tri contributes this growth to the introduction of several “non-competitive” race experiences, specifically First Timer and Friends & Family start options, which will be returning in 2019 along with the typical competitive divisions.

Another contributing success factor was the offering of 63 Indoor Triathlons across the US and Canada, hosting more than 5,000 triathletes – 53 percent of whom had no previous triathlon experience. In 2019, these efforts will expand to 100 indoor triathlons at Life Time destinations nationwide with a goal of hosting 10,000 participants in late January, creating the largest indoor triathlon series in history.

Looking ahead, Life Time Tri will further stimulate triathlon growth in 2019 by continuing to provide resources and training to first time participants, including new community-wide swim clinics, and expanding first-timer friendly programs into indoor triathlons, by grouping first-timers together where requested, as well as offering relay team options for those who aren’t quite ready for all three disciplines.

To expand upon the outdoor triathlon series’ accomplishments, Life Time is debuting a new series-wide race package, and bringing back the hugely successful Tri Series Championship, first held in New York City last July and featuring 225 incredible amateurs who competed for $60,000 in cash and prizes. Next year’s edition, taking place on July 21, 2019 at the New York City Triathlon, will qualify the top five finishers in each division, and again offer complimentary TriBike Transport shipping for participants.
