LAS VEGAS – Nov. 30, 2012 – Sin City’s famous Las Vegas Boulevard is welcoming more than 30,000 participants for the 4th annual Zappos.com Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Marathon & ½ Marathon to Benefit the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America. Taking place on Sunday, Dec. 2, the race will span across all eight lanes of the Las Vegas Strip to offer the ultimate neon-lit block party at night.

Thousands of participants and spectators from around the world will travel to experience the one of a kind race course with live bands at every mile, a Run-Thru Wedding for lovebirds to elope on the go at New York-New York Hotel & Casino, the infamous group of Running Elvi and pre- and post-event parties throughout the weekend at Vegas’ top nightlife venues. The marathon will begin at 3:00 pm and the half-marathon will start 4:30 pm. Ten Golden Finisher’s Medals will also be distributed at random, with each lucky recipient winning $1,000 at the Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas finish line.

“Las Vegas exudes fun and excitement, but with the addition of a running race at night, participants and spectators will experience Sin City in a whole new light,” said Adam Zocks, Event Director. “We’ve made several improvements from last year’s race, working in conjunction with the City of Las Vegas, Clark County and the businesses on the Strip to ensure every runner across the finish line, from the first one to the last one, will have the same great experience, highlighted by running on Las Vegas Boulevard.”

The Bachelor Sean Lowe is participating as part of Crohn’s & Colitis’ Team Challenge, while Nikki Reed from Twilight, American Idol and singer-songwriter Paul McDonald and Nicole Sullivan from Cougar Town will tackle the 13.1 mile course. Prior to the event, Olympic Silver Medalist Meb Keflezighi and reality TV star Roberto Martinez will both make appearances at the two-day Health & Fitness Expo.

“My husband Paul and I are really excited to participate in the Rock ‘n’ Roll Las Vegas Half Marathon this weekend,” said Nikki Reed. “Not only do we get to run down the Strip at night, but the Cirque du Soleil performances at the start line and bands at every mile, will definitely help us get through our first half marathon!”

As the event’s official charity, the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America will return with the Team Challenge half-marathon training program. Over the four-year history of the event, more than $12 million has been raised for CCFA through the Las Vegas race. This year, more than 1,100 runners will raise $4million to find a cure for the 1.4 million Americans living with Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.

“Our runners love the amped up energy of running the Strip at Night, which offers an entertaining platform for us to attract new and returning participants who also want to support an important cause,” said Craig Comins, National Director of Team Challenge. “After raising critical research dollars for digestive diseases and training over 16-weeks, there is no better motivation than to celebrate your accomplishment under the neon lights of the most exhilarating street in America.”

Race weekend kicks off with the free Health & Fitness Expo presented by Garmin at the Sands Expo & Convention Center on Friday, Nov. 30 from 11:00am to 7:00pm and Saturday, Dec. 1 from 5:00pm to 10:30pm. A runner’s ultimate resource, the Expo brings together more than 100 exhibitors offering the best in gear, nutrition, and training along with legendary running experts and athletes hosting interactive clinics. The Runners Kick-off Party Presented by Michelob ULTRA and KOMP 92.3 takes place on Friday, Nov. 30 from 5:00pm to 10:30pm on Fremont Street Experience with concert headliner Sick Puppies.

The 2012 event will feature revamped marathon and half-marathon courses with new a mid-strip finish line location on Las Vegas Boulevard, adjacent to Caesars Palace and the Mirage Resort. The new finish venue is conveniently located less than one mile from more than 15 resorts, offering participants a short walk back to their respective hotel after completing the event. Other improvements this year include a larger secure zone nearly totaling the size of two football fields and an enhanced start line village with easier access to the pre-race gathering area.
