COLUMBUS, Ohio – Land-Grant Brewing Company, a Columbus-based brewery with a strong love and dedication to local sports, has produced a limited-release custom craft beer to celebrate the OhioHealth Capital City Half Marathon.
Thirteen Point One Tart Citrus Ale was released at Land-Grant’s taproom on March 21 and will be available in cans exclusively in most Giant Eagle stores in Central Ohio next month. Thirteen Point One Tart Citrus Ale is easy-drinking and refreshing, making it an ideal celebratory post-race beverage.
The OhioHealth Capital City Half Marathon became the first major running and walking event in the nation to have its own beer when Land-Grant created 13.1 Wheat in 2018 to celebrate the event’s 15th Anniversary.
Land-Grant is the Official Beer the OhioHealth Capital City Half Marathon, which is set for Saturday, April 27. The 13,000 runners and walkers in this year’s event will be celebrated with a complimentary can of Thirteen Point One at the Byers Xtra Mile Finish Line Party. Thirteen Point One will also be served in the Diamond Cellar VIP Tent on Race Day.
“We are proud that the OhioHealth Capital City Half Marathon was the FIRST event in the nation to have its own beer,” race director David Babner said. “Many events have beer sponsors, but Land-Grant has once again taken the extra step to create a custom beer to celebrate Cap City and that we were ‘Made in Cbus.’”
Land-Grant has been a popular local brewery since it opened its iconic taproom in Franklinton, on the near West Side of Columbus, in October 2014. The company’s name is a nod to The Ohio State University and the company has been a major supporter of the Columbus Crew and other local sports teams.
“One of the greatest things about craft beer is the opportunity to build community around our beer, and runners have long been a part of that community,” said Walt Keys, Co-Founder and Creative Director of Land-Grant. “We’ve hosted many running events and groups here at the brewery and have several serious runners on staff, so the opportunity to again partner with the Cap City Half Marathon is a natural one for us. We think we’ve developed a properly refreshing beer to greet the participants at the finish line.”
“We can’t wait to celebrate our participants with a can of Thirteen Point One at this year’s OhioHealth Capital City Half Marathon,” Babner said. “This is one of the coolest sponsorships we have ever done and will again be a big hit with our runners and walkers.”
The 2019 OhioHealth Capital City Half Marathon, OhioHealth Quarter Marathon and Commit To Be 5K will begin at 8 a.m. on Saturday, April 27 in downtown Columbus. The Byers Xtra Mile Finish Line Party & Land-Grant Post Race Concert will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the John F. Wolfe Columbus Commons. The event will be broadcast from 7:55-9:30 a.m. on WBNS 10 TV.

About Land-Grant Brewing Company
“We are the Land-Grant Brewing Company, a production craft brewery in Columbus, Ohio. Land-Grant was born from a passion for painstakingly-crafted beer, powerful design, and a midwestern sports devotion. We all come from different backgrounds—Adam, business and brewing; Walt, design and photography; Q, pharmacist and homebrewing; Jamie, production brewing; Gus, basset hound—but we’re brought together through our dedication and commitment to the craft of producing championship quality craft beer.
Alumni of Ohio State, Adam and Walt always dreamed of returning to Columbus to build something of their own. Before coming home to Ohio, the seed of what would become a 2,500 BBL capacity brewing facility was planted in a tiny carriage-house apartment on the west-side of Chicago. To test the viability of what was then called Oval Brewing, we launched and successfully completed a Kickstarter Campaign in 2012, which was crucial step in allowing us to tackle this thing right. A long 899 days later, with a brief stopover in Grandview, Land-Grant brewed its first batch (a Brown Ale) on September 16th 2014 and opened the doors to its Franklinton taproom and brewing facility one month later on October 18th.
