Harsh words, apologies and 14 meet records conclude a dramatic Diamond League weekend
September 7, 2026
The Diamond League Final concluded on Saturday, ending a historic season with plenty of drama. Norway’s Jakob Ingebrigtsen had a disappointing finish in the men’s 1,500m, and with adrenaline and emotion running high, he called the rest of the field “losers” and “a bunch of cowards,” later (partially) apologizing. The Final also delivered a fitting conclusion on the track, with 14 meeting records falling across the two days, along with a string of PBs and national records.
After leading for much of the race, Ingebrigtsen was passed by three young stars, led by Australia’s national record holder, Cameron Myers, 20, who took the win in 3:30.14. After the race, Ingebrigtsen had some strong words for his competitors. CANADIAN Running
