GFNY Super Sunday: Biemme GFNY Mont Ventoux and Powerade GFNY Mexico City this weekend

June 22, 2016

NEW YORK CITY, June 22, 2016: The global cycling marathon series GFNY hits its Super Sunday this week with two races: Biemme GFNY Mont Ventoux and Powerade GFNY Mexico City.

The 80mile / 130km Biemme GFNY Mont Ventoux boasts a total elevation gain of 11,500ft / 3500m and is a race open to both amateurs and professionals that finishes on top of the legendary mountain. The challenge of this race is not just climbing Mont Ventoux, but getting to the bottom of this mountain in adequate condition after battling 100km of racing over two cols. The 30km ascent to the finish line is from Bedoin, following the classic, hard route.

The inaugural Powerade GFNY Mexico City has course length and a mountaintop finish in common with GFNY Mont Ventoux. However, riders have to deal with a third component: high altitude. The race starts in the heart of Mexico City on Avenida Reforma at the starting elevation of 7325ft / 2233m and finishes just after cresting the 11,902ft / 3628m-high Ajusco – a full 1000m / 3000ft above giants like the legendary Col du Galibier in France.

“Both events are the kind of challenges we absolutely adore,” says GFNY CEO Uli Fluhme. “At GFNY we provide the playground for serious cyclists so they can tackle the race without worrying about any interferences. That’s what our motto Be A Pro For A Day stands for.”

Between the two races, a total of 4000 athletes are taking on a GFNY on two continents. While elite athletes shoot for the overall and age group podiums, many riders compete to snatch a coveted racer corral spot for the GFNY Championship in NYC on May 21, 2017. The top 10% in each age group earn one of the spots at the front of the 5000-rider peloton in NYC.
