GFNY: Cyclists race to top of legendary Mont Ventoux June 28, 2015

June 17, 2015

(New York, NY – June 17, 2015) – The inaugural GFNY Mont Ventoux will be held on June 28, 2015. For the first time ever, a very international peloton of 1,000 cyclists from amateur to pro have the chance to participate in a cycling race that finishes on top of the legendary Mont Ventoux, arguably the world’s most iconic cycling mountain where many Tour de France stages were held and legends were born.

Like at all GFNY events, riders will enjoy closed roads and police moderated traffic to be able to fully focus on competing and enjoying the event. The long route is 84mi / 135km and has 11,800ft / 3600m of climbing. The medium route is 70mi / 113km long and has 9,800ft / 3,000m of climbing. Both routes travel over several cols and finish at the top of the 6,237ft / 1,912m-high Mont Ventoux. From there, riders enjoy a relaxed postrace descent back to Vaison-la-Romaine to take part in the finish festivities.

Also, like all GFNY World events, GFNY Mont Ventoux sets out to provide riders and their families an extraordinary experience. The event’s host Vaison-la-Romaine is a medieval town equally known for its Roman ruins situated at the bottom of Mont Ventoux. There are weekly Provençal markets filled with up to 450 stands in the summer season. It sprawls out over the main squares and streets of the town and is an ancient tradition dating all the way back to 1483.

The celebratory finish line and handing out of finisher medals are inside the Ancient Roman Amphitheater of Vaison that was built in 20AD. The Awards Ceremony begins in the Amphitheater with a 15-minute Roman Exhibition followed by overall and age group podium awards. While only a few riders are in the hunt for the overall win, the age groupers are trying to be in the top 10% of their category which is the last chance to snatch a racer corral spot at the GFNY Championship in NYC on May 15, 2016.

Wear-Design.fr is the title sponsor of GFNY Mont Ventoux. The French company specializes in custom cycling apparel and provides the official jersey of the race which is mandatory attire for the riders during the event.
