Six countries and world-class athlete lineup represented in initial team selection
BOISE, Idaho (March 21, 2012) – Race organizers have announced the first 11 teams selected to be at the starting line of the inaugural Exergy Tour taking place May 24-28 in Idaho. A world-class field of ladies professional cycling teams has accepted the coveted invitation to race over 200 miles across Southwestern Idaho, in the only UCI 2.1 designated race for ladies in North America this year.
“There is a lot of positive energy around women’s cycling right now with big companies getting involved. We are fortunate to have Specialized and lululemon displaying so much enthusiasm for the sport and it’s fantastic to see Exergy Development Group putting their faith in women’s cycling with a new race on the calendar. It’s exactly what the sport needs right now,” said Kristy Scrymgeour, Specialized-lululemon Team Owner.
Teams will travel to Idaho from Australia, Belgium, Canada, Germany, Italy, and across the United States to compete in the inaugural Exergy Tour.
“With a field comprised of several former, current and future National, World and Olympic Champions, we expect the competition level to rival the classic European races and to set a new standard for the highest level of ladies professional bike racing in North America,” said Heather Hill, Marketing, Communications and Events director. “The Exergy Tour will also be an opportunity for many young, up and coming riders to work with their teammates and prove themselves against the best in the world.”

“Having won one of my first big races in Idaho, I was thrilled to hear about the new Exergy Tour, said Clara Hughes, Team Specialized-lululemon. “I love Idaho – the landscape, the people, the energy they’ve given to the world of female cycling. What a gift to our sport that Exergy has brought with this race. I can’t wait for May!”
“Team TIBCO / To the Top Cycling is really exited about the upcoming Exergy Tour. It’s a great opportunity for our riders to participate in a UCI 2.1 race in the US while they normally have to go to Europe for this level of racing,” said Angela van Smoorenburg, Team TIBCO / To the Top Cycling Director Sportif Europe. “I’m from the Netherlands and I heard already from several European cycling teams that they are really excited the U.S. has a UCI stage race. This race can be a start of more European teams participating in U.S. races and it will give a big boost to women’s cycling world wide.”
By April 15, the complete list of teams and specific rider rosters will be announced.
The Exergy Tour will take place over the Memorial Day weekend in five Idaho cities – Boise, Nampa, Kuna, Garden Valley/Crouch and Idaho City. An estimated 15 of the top ladies pro cycling teams from around the world are expected to participate in the inaugural race, which was founded by Boise-based Exergy Development Group. The race will be one of the last races to provide international ranking points crucial to qualifying for the upcoming Olympic Games in London. It is sanctioned by USA Cycling and is the only ladies race in North America in 2012 with a 2.1 designation by the International Cycling Union (UCI).
