Over 600 First Time Triathletes
The inaugural Hand & Stone Women’s Philadelphia Triathlon was a resounding sell out success on Sunday July 8th, with 1,350 registered for the first major pool swim triathlon in Philadelphia, at historic John B. Kelly Pool in Fairmount Park.
“The inaugural Hand & Stone Women’s Philadelphia Triathlon selling out in 5 months is a testament to the vibrant strength of our female athletic community,” said Stephen Del Monte, CEO/founder DelMoSports. “We are really excited that over 600 of our participants were first timers, willing to take their first plunge into this great sport by jumping into the pool. From the initial feedback, it looks like we converted many of them into triathletes!”
Race weekend began Saturday with a very special WomenForTri panel discussion featuring local athletes, WomenforTri ambassadors and athletes representing the Challenged Athletes Foundation. Sunday’s race included athletes from 30 states, ages 15 to 75, and brought out 3,000+ spectators to watch spirited competition across all age groups.
“On behalf of our title sponsor Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa, we are so pleased with the response and support of this event in its first year,” DelMonte commented. “July 7, 2019 can’t get here fast enough for the 2nd Annual Hand & Stone WPT. Registration is already open for a limited special offer window. We are looking to expand the experience for more women to participate.”
