3 distances, 2 states & exclusive access to Forest Service roads on tap

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ – Registration with early bird pricing is open for the 2023 Chinkapin Hollow Gravel Grinder which will be held on Saturday, October 28. Previously, the event was on the third Sunday in October, typically the day after the Big Sugar gravel race in Northwest Arkansas.

The Chinkapin Hollow features three race distances:

  • 109-mile course featuring 77% unpaved roads and 5,490 feet of elevation
  • 63-mile course featuring 65% unpaved roads and 2,840 feet of elevation, and
  • 42-mile course featuring 56% unpaved roads and 2,050 feet of elevation.

All three distances include sections of Forest Service roads that are normally off limits to cyclists but are available to Chinkapin Hollow participants through special permitting allowed to the event. The 109- and 63-mile courses include significant mileage in both Arkansas and Oklahoma.

All three races start and finish in the Lake Wedington Recreation area which is located a few miles west of Fayetteville’s city limits and has been managed by the US Forest Service since 1954.

“We are excited that the 2023 Chinkapin Hollow Gravel Grinder is moving to a new date and on a Saturday to better accommodate participant travel needs. Past participant feedback has consistently raved about the quality of our gravel roads, but we’ve also heard from many that they prefer a Saturday event,” said Bruce Dunn, race director and CEO of All Sports Productions, the event organizer. “We believe that the Chinkapin Hollow offers gravel racers and enthusiasts one of the best values for their dollar in this part of the country,” Dunn concluded.

Early bird entry fees are $55 for the 42-mile race, $65 for the 63-mile race and $75 for the 109-mile race. There will be on course support, a post event party with food and beverages, finisher swag and podium awards. There will also be equalized prize purses.
