Chicago’s Two Premier Spring Half Marathons To Merge

New event creates one unique urban endurance experience to start season

CHICAGO, IL (Dec. 5, 2014) – Life Time – The Healthy Way of Life Company announced today that beginning in Spring 2015, the Chicago Spring Half Marathon will combine with the Michelob ULTRA Chicago 13.1 Marathon to establish one unique early-season urban endurance event: The Michelob ULTRA Chicago Spring 13.1 & 10K. The inaugural event will be held on Sunday, May 17 in downtown Chicago’s Park at Lakeshore East.

“This new event creates unfounded synergy within Chicago’s running marketplace, celebrating the city emerging from winter hibernation and kicking off the much-anticipated long distance run season,” said Mary Beth Kunz, race director for Life Time Athletic Events. “It combines the Chicago Spring Half Marathon’s intimate urban setting, lakefront course, charming finish line and gourmet hot breakfast with the excitement of the Michelob ULTRA 13.1 Marathon’s finish line experience and post-race party.”

The event will partner with the Illinois chapter of the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA).  As the Official Charity, participants will be encouraged to donate to MDA through online and in-person race registration. Participants can make a greater impact by joining MDA Team Momentum, the official endurance training program. It will also feature MARKET 14, a new post-run concept complete with local vendors, farmers, food purveyors and a complimentary build-your-own flower station. Athletes 21 and older will toast their finish with a complimentary Michelob ULTRA.

The Michelob ULTRA Chicago Spring 13.1 will be the first of two races in the 2015 Chicagoland Half Marathon Series – also consisting of the Chicago Half Marathon on September 27. Participants who complete both half marathon distances will earn a custom, 26.2 Challenge finisher medal at the final event.

Last year’s Chicago Spring Half Marathon, held during the same weekend, sold out two months before the race. To ensure a quality athlete experience, the Michelob ULTRA Chicago Spring 13.1 will be limited to 5,000 participants. The 10K is limited to 1,000 participants.
