CEO Challenges Generates $82,000 for Charity

December 4th, 2012

BOULDER, Colo. (December 4, 2012) – CEO Challenges hosted 11 sport competitions for 93 C-Level Executives in 2012, all to benefit various charities. The total amount raised in 2012 is just over $82,000.

The 17 CEOs that took part in the CEO Endurance World Championship at Blackberry Farm, TN in September contributed a total of $36,500 to be awarded to the first and second place finishers of the 3-day, 6-stage endurance event. Dan King, CEO of ReadyTalk in Boulder, CO, won the event overall and as a result contributed $27,500 to the Playworks charity. Frank Karbe of Exelisis in San Francisco came second in the event and donated his $9,000 charity contribution to the Olympic Club Foundation.

The largest event CEO Challenges hosted in 2012 was a Triathlon Challenge program for the Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO) in Boulder, CO in June. The YPO members raced on behalf of the Davis Phinney Foundation for Parkinson’s charity, and the weekend included an auction of sports memorabilia (including Taylor Phinney’s signed pink Giro d’Italia leaders jersey). The result of fund raising efforts by the YPO members resulted in $18,000 to the Davis Phinney Foundation.

All CEO Challenge events include a charity component built into entry fees for the competitors. The ‘default’ charity for 2012 was the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF), and CEO Challenges donated $2,500 to support the New York CAF Gala Dinner on behalf of CEO participants throughout the year.

In addition, the eight members of the CEO Challenge Race Across America team raised over $25,000 for CAF while racing their bikes in a relay from Oceanside, CA to Annapolis, MD over six days in June!

“I would like to personally thank the CEOs this year for their incredible generosity,” stated Ted Kennedy of CEO Challenges. “The CEOs that race with us understand how important it is to ‘give back’ to those who are less fortunate, and the $82,000 raised this year will make a significant difference to the various charities we support. I know the CEOs enjoy competing for charity as well as competing against their fellow business leaders and CEOs at our events.”
