NEW YORK (July 16, 2017) — Cameron Dye of Boulder, CO won the male professional division in 1:45:10 and Lauren Goss of Boulder, CO won the female professional division in 1:56:54 at today’s 2017 2XU New York City Triathlon. 4,000 Pros, ParaTriathletes (physically challenged) and Age Group athletes competed in the event, produced and presented by Life TimeSM – The Healthy Way of Life Company. Tens of thousands of spectators cheered on the athletes throughout the course.
In the male professional division, Jason West of Boulder, CO finished second with a time of 1:46:23, followed by third-place finisher Jackson Laundry of Guelph, Ontario with a time of 1:46:43. In the female professional division, Amy Bevilacqua of Southbury, CT finished second with a time of 1:58:46, while Kristen Marchant of Brampton, Ontario finished third with a time of 1:59:06. 34 professional triathletes participated in the event which offered a $30,000 prize purse.
The $30,000 pro purse also included a $3,000 “battle of the sexes” bonus. The equalizer pegs the male and female winners against each other by giving the female professional pros an 11.30 minute lead on the male pros to name the event’s true champion. Due to technicalities along the course, the bonus was presented to both the male and female champions of today’s race.
Participants swam 1.5-kilometers (.93 miles) in the Hudson River, biked 40-kilometers (24.85 miles) on the Henry Hudson Parkway, and ran 10-kilometers (6.2 miles) in Central Park to complete the event.
For the sixth consecutive year, the Challenged Athletes International Championship was held during the race and a prize purse of $5,000 was awarded to the top three physically challenged triathletes.
The 2XU New York City Triathlon, the only Olympic distance triathlon in New York City, is part of the The 2017 Life Time TriSM Series, which includes eight triathlons across the country between April and October.
