Handful announces “12.5% for the 12.5%” breast cancer awareness campaign, a year-round project designed to lift up and support the 1 in 8 women who will be diagnosed with breast cancer in the US
(PORTLAND, OR—October 2, 2018) – Portland-based sport bra maker Handful announces “12.5% for the 12.5%” breast cancer awareness campaign, a year-round project designed to lift up and support the 1 in 8 women who will be diagnosed with breast cancer in the US. An initiative deeply personal to the growing company’s ownership team, the campaign features a new Battle Cry Pink sport bra, a charitable giving partnership with the Young Survival Coalition (YSC), and social media outreach focused on early detection.
“This one is personal to us and a cornerstone of our company’s mission,” said Cary Goldberg, Handful co-owner and Director of Survivor Relations. Goldberg knows the breast cancer landscape all too well as a 12-year survivor of breast cancer. “One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime – that’s 12.5% of ALL women, and it’s way too many! We work all year to support survivors and be a beacon of light during this healing crisis that affects so many women. The ability to make a direct financial impact beyond October’s sea of pink ribbons and amplify our message to reach even more women has been a dream years in the making.”
Central to the campaign is the introduction of a new Battle Cry Pink sport bra. Handful will donate 12.5% of revenue from the sale of this bra to the YSC year-round. The partnership with YSC was born from Goldberg’s connection with the group during her own recovery from late stage III breast cancer in her early 30’s. “I benefitted first-hand from the impact of this organization’s work, and our entire team is thrilled to be able to come full circle and give back to those who gave to me,” Goldberg added.
Battle Cry Pink Handful bras are available at select retail locations and online at handful.com.
