BP Named Official Energy Partner of ITU World Triathlon Chicago

Partnership extends BP’s support of U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Movement

CHICAGO — The ITU World Triathlon Chicago today announced BP as a Main-Level Sponsor and the Official Energy Partner of the event, which will take place June 27-29 here in Grant Park.

BP’s new status with the ITU World Triathlon Chicago is an extension of its partnership with the United States Olympic Committee and U.S. Paralympics. BP will provide support to all six races set to take place over two days in Chicago, including the ITU World Paratriathlon event, which will feature 60 elite paratriathletes from around the world competing as a lead-up to the sport’s debut at the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

“As a proud partner of the United States Olympic Committee, BP is honored to sponsor ITU World Triathlon Chicago, where triathletes from across the globe will compete for a chance to represent their countries in the Olympic and Paralympic Games,” said Luis Sierra, president of BP Chemicals. “We’re particularly excited about supporting this weekend’s paratriathlon, which makes its Paralympic Games debut at Rio 2016, given that we’ve long been a leader in backing both U.S. Olympic and Paralympic athletes.”

“BP has been an outstanding supporter of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Movement over the past four years, and we are proud to welcome them as the Official Energy Partner of the 2014 ITU World Triathlon Chicago,” said Rob Urbach, USA Triathlon CEO. “As we look ahead to Rio de Janeiro in 2016, this partnership demonstrates the strong commitment BP is now making to the sport of triathlon.”

BP America has been a partner of the U.S. Olympic Committee since 2010 and sponsors athletes bound for the Olympic and Paralympic Games while providing funding to local sport clubs and athlete charities.

The ITU World Triathlon Chicago is produced by Lagardère Unlimited Events North America and USA Triathlon.
