Linden to participate in Margaritaville 5K and support top finishers in full and half marathons

BILOXI, Miss. (December 4, 2018) – FRESHJUNKIE Racing announced today that 2018 Boston Marathon Winner Des Linden will participate in the Margaritaville 5K hosted during the 2018 Mississippi Gulf Coast Marathon weekend. Following the 5K on Saturday, December 8, at 8 a.m., Linden will provide a brief Q&A session at Point Cadet Pavilion. On Sunday, December 9, Linden will hold the finish tape and pass out medals to top finishers as they cross the half marathon and marathon finish line in MGM Park.

The Coastal Running Fest includes a marathon (26.2 miles), half marathon (13.1 miles), the Margaritaville 5K (3.1 miles), Chevron Kids Marathon (a 1.2 mile fun run) and Harrah’s Gulf Coast Beer Mile at The Blind Tiger (1 mile relay). The Mississippi Gulf Coast Marathon course features a fast, flat, BQ-friendly path along the coast from Pass Christian to Biloxi.

“This year has been life changing,” Linden said. “The Boston victory was a dream come true and has opened the door for me to meet so many amazing people across the country. I’m looking forward to heading to the Mississippi Gulf Coast and spending time with all the runners.”

“We are thrilled to have Des Linden as both a participant in the Margaritaville 5K as well as a supporter of runners competing in the Mississippi Gulf Coast half and full marathons on Sunday, December 9,” said Strategic Partnerships Director Craig Sweeney. “Des will certainly bring a new energy to the event and we’re excited to have such a great ambassador for the sport, who is beloved by fans all over the world.”

The three-day running festival, culminating with a beachfront marathon that begins in Pass Christian and winds along Highway 90, or Beach Boulevard, to Biloxi, is a true celebration of running and Mississippi Gulf Coast culture. Runners can expect to explore quaint coastal towns on foot, shaded by historic oak trees and ending with a finish festival at MGM Park, featuring local cuisine and live music.
