Boilermaker Road Race Debuts RACE RESULT Ubidium Timing Technology, Delivering More Efficient Timing Data and Enhanced Race Experience

July 15, 2026

UTICA, N.Y. (July 16, 2026) /ENDURANCE SPORTSWIRE/ — The 49th Boilermaker Road Race marked another successful chapter for one of America’s premier road racing events while introducing a significant technological upgrade behind the scenes. This year’s race was timed using the cutting-edge RACE RESULT Ubidium timing system, providing runners, spectators, and race organizers with faster, more reliable results throughout race day.

The Boilermaker, which began in 1978 with 876 runners, has grown into one of the nation’s premier road racing events, drawing more than 20,000 runners, volunteers, spectators, and community members throughout race weekend. The event features a sold-out 15K, 5K, wheelchair races, youth events, and one of the country’s most celebrated post-race festivities.

This year’s transition to RACE RESULT technology represented an investment in the future of race operations. At the center of that upgrade was the German-engineered Ubidium timing system, which combines advanced timing technology with a streamlined hardware design that simplifies race-day logistics while delivering highly accurate athlete tracking and rapid processing of results.

One of the most significant improvements came during course setup. Ubidium’s lightweight ground antenna mats are designed to be deployed quickly and efficiently, reducing installation time while requiring less equipment than traditional timing systems. That streamlined setup allowed the timing crew to spend less time configuring timing points and more time validating system performance and preparing for race operations, helping ensure a smooth race-day experience from the first starter to the final finisher.

The timing operation was managed by Leone Timing, whose team oversaw the implementation of the new technology from setup through final results.

“The Boilermaker is one of the most respected road races in the country, and with this being our 20th edition as lead timers, we were excited to utilize RACE RESULT,” said Pat Leone of Leone Timing. “One of the biggest differences we noticed with the Ubidium system was how much easier and faster it was to deploy multiple timing points. The antenna mats gave our crew more flexibility with transport and setup time – we spent less time with setup and tear down giving us more time monitoring the event and supporting race operations. Throughout the event, the system performed flawlessly and allowed us to deliver fast, accurate results for thousands of participants.”

The successful implementation demonstrates how innovative timing technology can simplify race operations while enhancing the participant experience. By combining faster deployment, dependable performance, and rapid results processing, the RACE RESULT Ubidium system helped support an event that continues to set the standard for road racing in the United States.
