Rockville, MD – Orienteering USA has announced the names of the team members selected to represent the USA on the national team competing in the 2014 World Mountain Bike Orienteering (MTBO) Championships. The championships will be held from Aug 24 – 31 in Bialystok, Poland.
“This is only our third year of competing internationally in this growing sport,” said Greg Lennon, Orienteering USA’s MTBO Director, “but this will be our largest and most competitive team ever and we look forward to supporting them in every way possible.”
The nine riders named to the US Team hail from six states: Connecticut (Joe Brautigam), Georgia (Peter Jolles), Maryland (Liz Notter), Minnesota (Tom Puzak, Dave Swanson), Oregon (Sue Grandjean, Abra McNair), and Texas (Sarah Ginsbach, Nathan Winkelmann).
Mountain bike orienteering combines fast mountain biking and navigation skill, with the athlete using their bike, map and compass to complete a course as quickly as possible over miles-long terrain.
