8-Hour Dream Endurance Race and Marathon Returns to Butler’s Campus

Runners Compete Individually or in Teams to Challenge Themselves for Eight Hours of Running

INDIANAPOLIS – On Saturday, July 21, runners from across Indiana and beyond will descend on Butler University’s campus to participate in one of the region’s only true endurance events, the 8-Hour Dream Endurance Race and Marathon. Organized by CRRG Events, the race challenges runners and walkers alike to see how many miles they can cover individually or as a team in an eight-hour period. The 8-Hour Dream Endurance Race has been selected as the Road Runner’s Club of America (RCCA) State Championship race for the third year in a row.

The race is scored based on the number of laps that runners can complete at their own pace for eight hours straight from noon to 8 p.m. Participants have the option of running two courses. The “long course” is 3.10 miles, equaling a traditional 5K in distance. The second option is the “short course,” equaling 1.89 miles. The two courses provide distance options and strategies for participants to play out throughout the day. The start and finish is located at the historic Hinkle Fieldhouse with both courses taking participants around Butler University and onto the Central Canal Towpath by Holcomb Garden and the Bell Tower.

Participants may compete as an individual or as part of a team made up of anywhere from two to eight members. Final mileage is calculated by totaling the miles covered using both courses via lap counting. In the spirit of giving participants an even greater challenge, the race begins at noon, meaning the racing will start in the heat of the day. In 2017, 125 runners from 14 states took on the challenge of running the event as solo competitors.

New for this year, the organization has added the Cat Nap 5k for those who want to experience the event but are not willing, able or ready to take on eight hours of running.  The Cat Nap 5K will kick off the day at 9 a.m, giving runners the opportunity to run the long course before the endurance runners start their eight-hour journey.

“The 8-Hour Dream race is a unique race that draws a dedicated crowd of runners every year who make it a competitive, challenging and – most of all – fun event,” said Todd Oliver, president of CRRG Events. “We have a full day of entertainment planned for our participants and spectators and look forward to seeing how far our runners can push themselves in this endurance race.”
