500 Riders Ready for GFNY Philippines Season Opener

GFNY global cycling marathon series heads to the Philippines for an inaugural season opener in idyllic Bohol this Sunday, January 27

(NEW YORK CITY, January 24, 2019) – GFNY heads to Southeast Asia for its inaugural event in the Philippines. The event takes place in Bohol, hosted on the tropical island of Panglao this Sunday, January 27.

The competitive long route encompasses 148km with 1611m of climbing. In tropical, humid conditions, this season opener will challenge riders with two more challenging climbs but otherwise a fairly flat and fast course. Riders can expect locals coming to the roads to cheer on the cyclists during the first cycling marathon ever held in the Philippines.

The long route will take riders past Bohol’s famous Chocolate Hills and Bilar Man-Made Forest before returning to the Panglao’s stunning Bellevue Resort for a spectacular  and a festive finish line celebration with music, the Tarsier Monkey mascot, the Fiesta Queen and traditional dancing. The 66km non-competitive route has 554m of climbing and one challenging climb.

The top 10% of finishers on the competitive route will qualify for the racer corral at the 2019 GFNY World Championship NYC.

“We are very excited to start GFNY 2019 in the Philippines,” said Lidia Fluhme, President and co-founder of GFNY. “Riders local and international are in for a cultural treat and will receive a warm Filipino welcome from local villages along the route.”

Post-race there is plenty of options, from enjoying beautiful beaches, relaxing at the many resorts on Panglao, savoring great food, and going on excursions to enjoy the many tourist attractions, like Chocolate Hills tour or Island Hopping tour.
