(DALLAS) – Today 4,000 runners showed up at the BMW Dallas Marathon to participate in the 5K, 10K, 2-Mile Walk, and kids’ races – the 100m and 1,000m – which were brought back for a second year to promote family health and wellness in the community.

As the official marathon of the City of Dallas and Texas’ longest-running marathon, race weekend is drawing thousands of participants and spectators from around the world, culminating in the half, full and ultra marathon Sunday morning.

“The BMW Dallas Marathon is proud to offer races that appeal to those of all ages or fitness levels,” said Paul Lambert, President of runDallas. “Our lineup of family-inclusive races create a challenging and fun experience for all.”

10K Winners

Rodolfo Palomo, 16, of Roanoke, TX, took first place for men in the 10K with a time of 36 minutes 14 seconds. “This was my first time running the BMW Dallas Marathon,” says Palomo. “Since I started running last year, I wasn’t expecting to win the race. I just came out to have fun. I’m already looking forward to participating in the 50th anniversary next year.”

The women’s 10K race had an exciting finish, with Ella Madden, 14, of Dallas, TX, taking first place with a time of 38 minutes 45 seconds. “I ran my first 5K last year and wanted to run the BMW Dallas Marathon 5K to help prepare for my first high school track meet.”

5K Winners

Evan Lemons, 18, who lives in Plano, TX, placed first for men in the 5K with a time of 17 minutes and 47 seconds. “The BMW Dallas Marathon was my first big race,” says Lemons. “Some of my favorite parts of the course was running past groups of spectators cheering us on.”

Julie Rembold, 39, of Lucas, TX, took first place among the women running the 5K at 18 minutes 58 seconds. “I did my research on past BMW Dallas Marathon champions and was looking forward to participating in this year’s race,” says Rembold. “I feel grateful to have joined the ranks of these individuals.”

Kids’ Races

More than 100 kids of all ages took part in the marathon’s second annual line-up of family races, including the 100m and 1,000m. The event was a family affair for the Del Porto family, who celebrated two winners. Nicolas Del Porto, 10, of Dallas, TX, won the 1,000m and his little brother, Sebastian, 6, took home first place for the 100m.

Friday Night Lights Mile

The BMW Dallas Marathon hosted its inaugural Friday Night Lights Mile event yesterday evening, a two-lap Grand Prix style race around Dallas City Hall Plaza. More than 200 participants took part in this new and fun event that offered eight different heats for seniors, kids, elite runners, and even those in costume. The elite heat wrapped up the evening, with the winner running the 1-mile course in just 4 minutes and 18 seconds.
